you plug in the adapter, plug in the M.2 drive, and your done. no need to remove the side plates (and I believe someone on here said they slightly broke the plates doing this), and use a screwdriver

That's not an officially supported solution. If that overheats or gets damaged or negatively impacts the system you wouldn't have a leg to stand on. It's preposterous to make the argument that there's too much complexity to the end user installing an SSD into a PS5 while pointing to something MacGyvered online on Reddit as some sort of viable solution when it's clear Microsoft doesn't intend for you to even use that and you'd have to go beyond out of your way to use it.

Meanwhile you can get a cheaper 2TB drive for prices quickly approaching the Xbox 1TB drive on Newegg.
