OK now he's going to back track. Sounds like he's begging his base to go along with it even though we clearly are saying no. So Now he's going the Diplomatic route. This is how he should of handled it from the beginning instead of threatening military action. It sounds like to me he could of pulled a reverse psychological on the war mongers since it was the republicans originally criticizing him on handling Syria last year. It was a good speech and I'm glad he scaled it back. I get his point about dictators but we have to be consistent. There are evil rulers all over the world killing people as we speak. Are we going to go into every country and stop it? No.

It would be nice if the concerned nations of the world acted with even a shred of moral consistency about countries using chemical weapons instead of completely dismissing any allegations of use when those claims are made against an allied nation like what happened when Israel was accused of using chemical weapons against the the Palestinians in Gaza back in 2007.
If all claims are not treated the same then it becomes hard to buy this moral authority bullshyt that is being trotted out as justification for dropping bombs on an undesirable nation.

Aesthetically speaking, nice speech. I still say this is an international matter, and not something that should be handled unilaterally, but it sounded nice.

What a shocker, a day before 9/11 :stopitslime:
Why are cats disappointed that we're not straight up going to drop them bombs...as far as the scheduling, Congress was supposed to meet today so obviously his speech would be after he received authorization. Unfortunately we all know this stance he's taking is a rare moment and there's no consistency in how the US acts. Hillary would've dropped those things already.

Nope There is no Smokescreen. He doesn't have the votes in the House or Senate and The American People Democrat, Independent and Republicans are overwhelming against military intervention. So what is Obama suppose to do? He has to scale it back which is why he's "Postponing" the vote. Then Assad will give up his so called "Weapons" and it will be over. I'm just glad he's not going to do an override and bomb them anyway. He seems to have gotten the message. That's why I liked the speech. I can tell he understands we don't want this.
