Chiefs using rope a dope tactics

Survive on strong and efficient defense all game long and counterattack offensively in crunch time to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat at the end

They bend but never break and always find ways to win because their defense holds the line and keeps them alive in the game long enough until the offense scores. 7 of their 9 wins in 2024 have been comeback wins. They trailed in most of their games and pulled out the victory late in the 4th quarter.

They’re winning the close games. You have to stun them, score early and never take the boots off their necks. Keep running the score. Blow them out. Add to your lead.

Never forget that Andy Reid plays a massive and critical role in the success of this team. He is always ten steps ahead when he coaches. Opposing teams never know what to expect from the chiefs. He’s not a predictable coach easy to plot against. With him, this week wont be the same as last week. He keeps things fresh and surprises opponents. He’s an quick in game manager, a smart decision maker with the ability to not only adjust and adapt but be a trend setter offensively.

He finds way to innovate, that’s why the chiefs currently lead the NFL with 24 trick plays this season. He knows how to scheme up an offense about as well as anyone, and he’s excellent at identifying and developing QB talent, which comes in real handy for a QB driven league. He also doesn’t have some kind of set formula for his offense, he’s one of the few coaches in the league unafraid to throw out the book and start over. He identities his quarterback's strengths and weaknesses better than anyone else and he builds his offense around his quarterback's strengths instead of trying to get his quarterback to fit into his offense.

They have been offensively dead average this year, they’re the 15th ranked team in scoring out of 32 teams (total points scored) this season.

They’re the 13th best ranked team in scored touchdowns with 24.

Their current offensive struggles are in part caused by one main factor : the injury bug. Isiah Pacheco (25 years old)got hurt last week and won’t return any time soon, and both Rashee Rice (24 years old) and Hollywood Brown(27 years old) are done for the rest of the season because of serious season ending injuries. With injuries thinning and decimating their offensive depth at key positions (WR and RB) the scoring burden now rests on the shoulders of talented Young players like WR Xavier Worthy and TE Noah Grey, and grizzly but still very useful veterans like RB Kareem hunt(29 years old) TE Travis kelce (35 years old)and 32-year old DeAndre Hopkins, former Tennessee Titan wide receiver recently acquired by trade.

The chiefs are ranked 21st in rushing yards. 7th ranked team in the league with 11 rushing touchdowns

Ranked 15th in passing yards

Ranked 15th in all purpose yardage(3120 total yards)
346.7 yards (of all kinds) per game

Mahomes seems to have an off year by his standards .So far this season, He made 2208 passing yards in 9 games = an average of 245 passing yards per game.

But he has only made 12 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown this year for 13 touchdowns in total. He’s also got 167 rushing yards. 9 interceptions and 0 fumbles.

But he’s still well supported and protected by his offensive linesmen, proof the chiefs have only allowed 20 sacks in 9 games so far this season. That means KC only allows 2.2 sacks per game. They’re classed 21st out of 32 teams for most sacks allowed. That means in reality that they’re the 11th best team out of 32, when it comes to protecting their quarterback and giving him room and time to make plays. They’re barely out of the top 10. Props to Trey Smith, Creed Humphrey and Joe Thuney, great facilitators. The Bears would kill to have all three of you on their team. Imagine if Andrew Wylie was still with the chiefs.

The chiefs remain undefeated team in part because of Humphrey, definitely the best center in the league. His 93.6 overall grade is the best for any offensive lineman to play 200 or more snaps, marking the third year in four pro seasons where Humphrey has posted an 89.9 overall grade or better.

On the Defensive side of things, the chiefs have been very stingy in 2024 in most aspects of the defensive game, on the other hand, they didn’t made as much tackles, interceptions and sacks as the other teams according to statistics. But they find a way to limit opposing teams to only 17.9 points per game.
