NFL teams aren’t tanking. You cannot convince 53 players to purposely lose for a goddamn rookie they don’t care about. That would mean those players are putting bad play on film, jeopardizing their spot on the team, and fukking up their money for future negotiations….so a rookie can come take someone’s spot.

Players definitely don't tank but coaches and front offices can for sure.

I definitely don't think coaches tank, their lifespan in the NFL is directly tied to winning games.....they wanna win. Having a season terrible enough to net you a high pick generally puts them on the hot seat and they can lose the locker room. Some of them are just so bad, that it may come off as tanking. But they are definitely putting in a ton of work with the intention of winning games, it just doesn't happen.

Now a GM could intentionally make the team bad by getting rid of talented players, thats probably the closest you could get to actually tanking in the NFL. But then you are screwing yourself and the owner because that directly effects revenue.

The Brian Flores lawsuit implicates ownership offering him a bonus to lose games. You can bet that's not the only time it's happened.

Yeah I could see ownership wanting to do something like that even though its not smart. Their jobs are never on the line.

But I can't see why a coach would go along with it, and even if they did, the coordinators would have to be on board too...basically risking their careers. And they can only do so much, they would have to intentionally sabotage the game by calling bad play after bad play, and hope the players can't work through it. The players would quickly realize the coaches are fukking them over and so would the media and possibly fans.

I stand by the fact that you can't REALLY tank in the NFL. The closest we have seen is the Colts for Luck. And that was basically the GM rolling with the backup Painter as the QB after Manning got hurt because he knew there was no chance in hell the Colts could beat anybody with him playing. I honestly believe the players and coaches were all actually trying to win, they just sucked.
