Idk, I just think that as Blacks, we've lost our way. Education used to mean something significant to us. Especially, when you reminisce on our oppressed history, throughout our chattel tenure in the United States. We literally, fought collectively, inch by inch, for law or legislature to be passed in our favor. Now we have, eligible youth and adults who are still against suffrage. Though some critics may argue that the playing field isn't economically sound, the game is more feasible than it's ever been. Thanks to technology, we can see how “the Man" is trying economically cripple us. (see Romney video).Heck a mere 60-70 years ago, we as a people were being beaten ,harassed ,killed , and openly discriminated against on a daily basis. Now the number one enemy to a person of color, is another person of color. :wtf: :mindblown:
Not to mention a little over a century ago, we were lynched for trying to educate and empower ourselves, now many of our people believe it's a conspiracy to educated yourself to fullest (see anti-science movement). Being functionally literate was a crime, and getting a hold of text was a very hard and secretive process. Now we have scholarly-level education available at our fingertips, and the majority of people still choose to do the latter. This infuriates me on a daily basis, how a few decades after the civil right amendment was passed, collectively as a group our progress has been minimal. In society we’re still being portrayed as nothing more than brutes (dumb jocks) and desperate sex symbols (not in a good light). We've become so complacent on blaming others that we can't even triumph to the finish line, a mere few feet away.

There's no excuse 2012 not go to "college". Even less excuse, to not graduate high school. No excuses, no apologies on my part.

Go to school get good grades and you'll be set. Nobody said you have to put yourself in debt either.

High school >>> CC >>> University.

Guess what, financial aid at Junior Colleges cover the "whole" tuition. If you get a part time job, you can save up, more than enough to attend a decent state school. If you have to take loans, a two year bid won’t ruin you. Also, if your grades are good enough; there are numerous scholarships and grants that’ll cover your expenses.

It's cultural. As long as academics and getting good grades is perceived as a "white" thing, I don't expect to see to much improvement in graduation rates.

Whats Obama doing about the problem?

What do you want Obama to do about it? Personally tutor every nygga thinking of dropping out?

- The Schott Foundation said it is aware of the differences and calculates graduation rates as the number of students receiving diplomas divided by the number of students in ninth grade four years earlier. It counts only diplomas accepted by post-secondary institutions, not GEDs or local diplomas, offered in some districts for students who are not college-bound.

- interestingly enough, of the states with the worst graduation rates for black boys: Nevada, New York, DC, Connecticut and South Carolina, 90 percent is traditionally Blue Democratic states.

- Even though the Black population is significantly less in the states with the highest black male graduation rates over 70 percent (Wyoming, Nebraska, Missouri, Alaska, Nevada, Vermont, New Hampshire, Oregon, Idaho and Montana) approximately 70 percent of these states are traditional Red Republican states.

sad but most people i know have a GED and lets be real that is all you really need. Most schools and Higher educations accept it and no job asks to see your high school diploma. And these dudes who are dropping out are getting into a trade school which most accepts GED's.

Weak rejoinder breh. I personally think Jay and Obama should throw a back to school concert.

I'll be honest I've been working in and out of inner city schools for the last 5 years or so and its more than just a culture or a black thing. You can take you a white kid put him in one of those high schools and more than likely he will not graduate or receive little to no education. The public school systems in the inner cities and urban areas are a total failure. If any of you have cousins/ younger brothers ask them how there schools are and you will see what i mean. Even better if there in one of these school ask them to see there notebooks , will probably be empty or scribbled That just the tip though what I have noticed is a lack of people who work in these schools caring from teachers assistant all the way to principles. Sure they might care about kids safety and numbers and % 's but there is no more focus on real education. I used to read papers of kids in 8th grade who would struggle writing paragraph about what they did over the weekend and am talking about struggle struggle like

"Ofer the weekn i went to my oncels house and we ate diner, i liked the diner we ate, it was good food we eat "

A large part of the problem too is the broke homes these kids come from and lack of parent involvement , but that's a whole other discussion

You think that there are a certain type of family "values" and social structure that is conducive to academic success? Do white families exhibit this more, on average than black families? Would you conclude then, the family values and social structures is superior to that of blacks?
