If you ask a Japanese person whether or not an anime character looks Japanese or white, they say Japanese and generally find the question confusing as fukk. Only Americans see anime characters as white because for whatever reason because they associate white skin only with Europeans and don't seem to understand that lots of people in Asia naturally have pale skin.

I've always found it interesting that if Anime is fantasy, that in their fantasy they draw themselves as more European in appearance, especially in the eyes. Many women even have plastic surgery or wear their makeup to look more round eyed.
