Knowing The self-hating Japanese, the characters in question are probably meant to be white :mjlol:
Oh they will definitely flip it. Its crazy b/c people online are trying to fake outrage for the Japanese and they quiet as fukk. They don't give a shyt about this or any other white washing that goes on in TV.

Anime is white-washing in and of itself. Acting like those white-skinned, blue eyed characters are Japanese :michelle::rudy::mjlol:

Anyway, don't care about this demonic film enough care about their complaining. :yeshrug:
Exactly
This is why casting Scarlett Johansson as The Major didn't bother me. Motoko is Asian in name only. Telling me she's Asian with blue eyes and tig ol bitties :camby:

I'm so used to combating the 'cism when it came to blacks in hollywood (marginalization, colorism, magical-negro syndrome, white-saviors, typecast hood/slave films, etc) that it's kind of weird seein Luke Cage (netflix), Black Panther (big budget live action), Miles Morales (big budget animated), Get Out, Hidden Figures, Blackish, Empire, Power, Survivor's Remorse, Cloak and Dagger, Corey Hawkings in 24, Jeffrey Wright/Thandie Newton in West World, John Boyega in Pacific Rim 2, Michael B. Jordan in the Creed franchise, Idris in the Dark Tower, Kevin Hart's stuff...

I don't even watch all of the above but the fact that there are so many options across platforms/genres is crazy. Not perfect nor where it needs to be in quantity but it's a pleasant shift. Just gotta keep it goin and double triple down

I say that b/c it makes it kinda weird seein asians starting to move to the forefront of bucking at whatever overt/covert hollywood cism.

Are people in Japan actually complaining about this or just 'Asian'-Americans? I notice the article said Asian-Americans should have been casted, that makes as much sense as casting whites. Why not Japanese actors?

The remake takes place is Seattle (American city with lots of Asians). Thing is, racially, the main character in the source material is an Asian man named Light Yagami. There was literally no reason he had to be changed to a cac named Light Turner. There were also lots of (non main) white characters in the original anime.

That's because they have complete control over their image and representation due to running their own media (they don't even watch anything from the West that's not big budget Hollywood stuff). Asian Americans do not though, and there's an extremely prevalent pattern of changing any Asian male character into a cac in American adaptations of movies/anime/video games/true stories etc.
