They are trying to cater to the west. I have no problem with this. You cater to your market. This movie made in South America should have a Latin actor playing the role of Ronaldo Light. Or If created in Africa should be played by an African main character Abdalla Light. The problem I have is changing the role of the characters from the source material just like how this American version is doing. Turner light shouldn't be a damn emo.

The REAL issue is that American media rarely, if EVER gets it "right " when it comes to these type of adaptations because they really only truly work
If you have the original creators involved. These types of stories are so uniquely Japanese, in both culture and mindset, that trying to "adapt" the. American audiences results in a serious case of "lost in translation" syndrome.

Hm if they relocated it to Seattle that's a bit different then having it still in Japan but only casting white ppl, also if it's had live action versions that were set In Asia with Asian leadshopefully it's decent first two seasons of death note were piff
There are Asian men in Seattle though (100% American citizens). The implication is American = cac, which is obviously racist as hell. The "cac is the default race, no one would watch is he wasn't a white person" BULLshyt is a disaster for Asian American actors, they actually get screwed out of onscreen representation/work more than blacks.
If it was set in South Africa I bet they'd make him a cac there too.

Yes when they have white names they are, and a lot of the times, the characters are viewed by the artists, writers, and populace of being japanese.

You know they did a study with Japanese people and asians in general, they literally see those characters as themselves, whites see them as themselves, its funny weird reaction but it is what it is.
