As much as I love true crime stories, in all the various forms of media.....often I prefer reading, esp, as it relates to the kind of white trash element of society that this case deals with.....For me, it becomes grating after an episode or 2, to watch these miserable, unintelligent, poor people, and in as much as I understand their situation, economically, it is too much. Watching overweight, undereducated, alcoholic people talk nonsense just as such an unappealing and exploitive tone to it, that I may not make it through all these episodes....Though I have already done my research, and reached my conclusions....

This white trash loser did that shyt, as far as Teresa Halboch, and shyt went down more or less as Dassey described, enough for me to not care if it's slightly off on the narrative... I think it's possible that evidence was 'planted' or manipulated, and thats it's own story from my perspective, but as far as guilt or innocence, I think it's only logical to conclude he's guilty....Perhaps prison warped him slightly, though the guy was torturing small animals at a young age, but a rage against women, as well as sexual dysfunction, it's sad story all around....but it's too much to take these ignorant, greasy people for 10 hours.
How many episodes are you in, breh? 3?

Just curious how you were able to, on one side conclude he's guilty but the other side acknowledge the possibility of planted and manipulated evidence? Not to say I disagree, just :jbhmm:

:heh:

Based on what though - there's really nothing logical to lead one to conclude he's guilty or not - it sounds like you're just using his character and past as a vessel to carry this conjecture. There was far too much manipulation, theorizing and monomania that went on (on both sides) to draw any concrete conclusions of who murdered her.

To those of you that think Steven is guilty think about it. Forget all the signs that point to a setup, if you just got out of jail after 18 years for something you didn't do and you were on the verge of winning a lawsuit against the city that put you there for millions of dollars, would you do anything to jeopardize that? You're really going to MURDER someone right now in YOUR OWN HOUSE? Steven is not a smart man but he also isn't retarded. Add to the fact he had his new chick Jodi. Makes no sense.
The problem with this is, we can't speculate on what frame of mind he was in upon and the period after his release, the psychological effect of 18 years of wrongful incarceration and who he innately is as a person, to even begin to try and use what you and I might classify as making "sense" in this situation. Just because he had a new girl, doesn't mean he didn't have the desire to pursue other women. It's also worth noting that if he did murder her, it most probably didn't take place in his trailer or in his garage.

saw the first 2 episodes, pretty interesting but 10 episodes of this ? is it worth it?
But those idiots saying if he was never released in the first place that woman would still be alive. :mindblown: That blew my mind

After finishing the documentary and reading up on all the other evidence left out...

The most damning evidence left out by the producers were the *67 phone calls Steven made to Teresa...We know somebody was harrasing her so that's really suspect...

As far as the cuffs and leg irons Steven purchased...None of Teresa's DNA was found on them...He said he bought them for his GF/wife and there is no physical evidence to support he used them on another woman...The same can be said for the rifle, its relevence is negated due to the fact the bullet the prosecution linked it to was tampered with hence the contamination...

All that said I am not convinced Steven did it nor am I convinced he didn't do it...The physical evidence simply does not support the prosecutions story of Teresa being raped and brutally murdered in Stevens cabin and garage...Like I said earlier its illogical those two inbred dumb fukks could brutally rape and murder someone like that while leaving no physical evidence behind...

They own a salvage yard with a crusher and these geniuses with a combined 130 IQ who can thoroughly scrub down a crime scene of all traces of DNA elected to hide the vehicle in the bushes on their property...This is the definition of illogical...

The only two things I am convinced of without any doubt is police foul play and Brendan Dassey had no part in this...That woman was not raped or killed in Stevens home or in his garage...The vehicle and the key were without any doubt planted on that property...The bullet in the garage was clearly tampered with hence the contamination...Stevens blood vial from his previous case was clearly tampered with and only an officer would have access to it...

There is clearly a lot more that just reasonable doubt thanks to shady police work...Neither one of those two men should be rotting in prison because the evidence does not support these convictions...

Not Guilty...

I ran through a couple of episodes and almost couldn't sleep. The thought that them boys could run up in my crib and tell me I'm a murderer never seemed so apparent. Also I hate to be that guy but the legal system is built on reasonable doubt. Steven could have been dead guilty but no way should that case have been taken to trial.

Finished the series last night. Thought it was so well done. I will watch it again for sure.

I do not see how Brendan not only got convicted, but then was repeatedly denied retrial requests. I mean, his original lawyer was proven to have done him a disservice, the lawyers investigator got him to confess a second time under duress, as HIS OWN DAMN CLIENT, he was coerced into multiple confessions, etc. How any Appeals Court judge could not see that his entire trial was flawed and he was due a second trial is deplorable. Never mind the fukking state supreme court denying him too. I like that the post conviction lawyers are taking it to the federal level. I think he was innocent, but even if not, he at least deserves a fair second trial with loads of the original evidence being denounced as admissible.

Sucks that the series is over, cause it was so gawd damn enjoyable from a production stand point. The injustices in this are many, the story is very intriguing and whether or not you think Steve Avery is guilty or innocent, this is easily one of the best documentaries you will ever watch.

You gotta watch all of it fam..I can't say for sure 100% he didn't do it but there's not enough clear evidence to say that he did do it..that's the whole issue here, they're meant to prove you guilty otherwise you're innocent but this whole thing was the other way around

I think Dan Wetzel did a good job of explaining why Dassey got his appeal requests denied. He's a sportswriter but has covered a lot of trials that are sports related and he wrote his thoughts on the documentary. I copy + pasted the parts about the appeals below his tumblr post but the whole write up is pretty damn good, he is also goes in how the press conference talking about throat slitting, rape, and gunshots pollutes the jury and the general public whether they prove it in court or not.

When Avery and Dassey’s appeals went nowhere, the viewer is left to wonder how and why?

Well, maybe there are legal arguments why and maybe there aren’t. I don’t know it all well enough and won’t claim I know the motivation of the trial judge or the various appellate judges.

What we do know is that judges are human and judges live amongst us – in some cases in small communities. These aren’t some far off, well-coc00ned U.S. Supreme Court Justice.

You want to be the local judge and have people perceive that you went “easy” on those vicious criminals? You want to explain at a neighborhood barbecue why you may have favored the defendant? It requires additional courage. A lot of courage. It’s a lot easier to play along on a case this high profile and grizzly. That’s human nature. Some judges are going to be influenced by it.

Justice is supposed to be blind but this is one way it isn’t.

* This case shows what a terrible idea it is for the public to elect judges. The law – especially appellate – is suppose to messy and difficult and maddening and unpopular and beyond the comprehension of many citizens.

Once you elect judges though, that can go out the window.

In Wisconsin, the public votes on all seven Supreme Court justices, all 16 judges in the Court of Appeals and all 241 of the circuit court judges. They serve at the will of the people and the people overwhelmingly were expressing their will.

The two “trial” judges in this case, one in Manitowoc County, one in Calumet County, were making about $128,000 a year according to the state court system [it could vary slightly by year]. At the time the median household income in Manitowoc was about $48,000 and in Calumet about $65,000.

Needless to say, these are really good jobs in area’s where there aren’t a lot of options. Incumbents tend to keep winning and thus remain employed for life unless they do something dramatic to anger the electorate. Something that can be used against them by outside groups in the election, like say ruling that Brendan’s confession is inadmissible and almost assuring he walks.

I don’t know if financial security or professional ambition influenced any decision, in the trial or the ensuing appeals, but it is clearly a possibility. Those judges stand for reelection every four years and this was, by far, the biggest cases they’d ever hear.

Everyone was watching and especially in the statewide appeals courts, going “soft” in either case would certainly be brought up during the campaign by what are often out-of-state, single-issue political action groups.

Why risk everything by making an unpopular decision to help out someone who isn’t likely to become a very productive member of society anyway?
