On cable nonetheless :russ:

You do know that people still have cable right?

It's also other shows in that slot on cable getting 1M+ viewers as well, so let's not act like AEW is the only show to do so. People are still hesitant out here to admit that wrestling is still a niche audience and industry :heh:

Social media views and clicks don't mean shyt when it doesn't actually translate into people actually watching the product or service you're selling.

It's not a normal time at all for wrestling, we're literally talking about 9pm central time which isn't that late at all especially consider the fact that other shows on cable still get 1M+ viewers in those slots. For all the hype around Punks return, the majority of people would have rather watched it on social than live.

Not to mention the fact that he was on at the top of the hour, so they could have easily dipped out after he left. Those ratings aren't that good with how much people hyped his return.

Not trying to be an a$$hole when I ask this, but what kind of number would have been an unqualified success to you? Because a 53% increase in overall viewership (1.129 million vs. 740,000 last week) and a 75% increase within the demo (692,000 vs 396,000) in a 10 PM Friday slot, along with the hype and online viewership numbers, seems like a home run to me.

Rome was not built in a day, and I doubt that WarnerMedia's going to balk at those ratings increases.

It’s only a matter of time until AEW beats Raw in the ratings (for a week).

Im projecting the one where Bryan Danielson debuts on Dynamite and possibly does a staredown with punk

If Punk Bryan and Cole do an invasion gimmick :wow: They don’t even have to mention WWE, open that forbidden door, and make it about ROH (not gonna happen, but a guy can dream)

I'd say 75% of my friends group don't have cable. They all just stick with Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, etc.. Cable subscriptions are down across the board from where they were a few years ago.

That's your friends though and doesn't account for the fact that there are still millions of people and places out here that still has cable.

Let's preface this by saying that people knew that Punk was coming. It was open knowledge that he was coming. Spoilers and leaks happen all the time in the entertainment and TV world and the wrestling isn't the exception to that.

1.5+ million viewers would have been a success IMO with how much people hype up CM Punk to be this major star and ratings draw. Wrestling is a niche industry and it's been that way for years now. Look at those entertainment sites that posted about his return and barely any comments compared to other shows and entertainment news that they talk about.

Yeah online viewership is cool and call, but it doesn't mean that those people will actually watch and consume the product after. The mystique of his return is what drawed in some of those viewers and there's no guarantee that they will even stay.

Let's not sit here and pretend like the masses care about wrestling or even CM Punk like that the way you'd have wrestling fans believing.

That's assuming that you'll still have CM Punk to draw in viewers and that people won't leave this Friday.........

Don't sit here and pretend like Punk didn't play a part in the ratings being what they were and a lot of people actually tuning in. It was not a shot at CM Punk or AEW, but people make it that way. What I said was, that I would have expected live viewership to be higher with how much people have hyped Punk over the years as this ratings magnet.

A lot of y'all are just looking for any reason to complain and be offended.
