Ironically, the league realized that and is trying manufacture ones with it's corny "Rivals Week" gimmickIf the nba had rivalries like every other sport they wouldn’t need gimmicks

Thisit's not a good product. We don't know who 98% of the players are. LeBron is still the face of the league. You can't keep trying to sell that a 50 year old is the best player in the league,
100%.Player movement is also the result of the league shortening contracts in response to a bunch of crippling long-term deals that were handed out. Teams used to be able to lock guys up for 6-7 years; now it's only 3-4 at a time so you're always under the gun.
It will never happen because the NBAPA would fight it to the death, but the league would be better with non-guaranteed contracts, NFL style, especially with these new hard cap rules. There's so many awful contracts in the NBA and teams are just stuck as a result.
It'd be better for the league if Denver could waive MPJ and Jamal Murray to put a better team around Jokic. Milwaukee and Phoenix have some brutal deals on their books around their superstars.
The All Star game should decide home court in the finals, I have no problem with this.Except that they don’t watch anymore. NBA All Star ratings are at historic lows. Nothing has fallen off more in the last 10-15 years than the NBA All Star Game. It’ll be interesting to see how they try to improve that game, now that it’s going to be back on broadcast TV (NBC) starting next season. Since it’s back on broadcast TV, Silver has to try to improve the game enough in order to have it stay on NBC. If ratings for the All Star game don’t improve in the first couple of years, NBC could easily kick it to Peacock, and it will be buried even further.

Sad but trueBut, that would only make players with finals expectations play hard most likely.
@KnickstapeCityThis is an issue similar to being between a rock and a hard dikk

It’s crazy how players that do not matter at all get overpaid in this sport. Why is the nba spending 90 million on Patrick Williams?100%.I
I do think the nature of basketball gives players MUCH more leverage than any sport.
Steph Curry is like 96th percentile for height and he's only 6'3" or so. Even though it's a global game, finding men between 6'2" and 7'2" that are reasonably athletic and coordinated/skilled enough to play in the league is tough. Then finding true difference makers that can be at least perennial all-stars is even more difficult. It's about as tough as finding a franchise QB.
The league hands out wayyyyy too many bad contracts though. Feels like any average-ish player that can get 20+ minutes/night is likely to get a 9-fig deal or close to it at some point in his career.

Technically, non guaranteed deals already exist, but some other team would just offer the same deal and more fully guaranteed. The absolutely need non guaranteed contracts and they need collusion. Teams should not be overpaying players that have not earned it. the Jalen greens of the world don’t deserve these huge contracts just by existing
Easy answer: the league ain't that deep. Why did the Raptors give Immanuel Quickley 5/$162 million and Scottie Barnes 5/$224 million?
Why would teams overpay unproven players? That’s why they need collusion.Technically, non guaranteed deals already exist, but some other team would just offer the same deal and more fully guaranteed.

With the way the CBA is now, some deals are about having a salary slot to match if something opens up.
If the nba was a real business it would be bankrupt lBecause there is a salary floor and money has to be spent. Based on what's alloted to the players.
But you know this already.

All these thoughts, hot takes and dumb assess acting like they are in the mind of all people who watch or don't watch sports
Never seen so many men excited to tell you why they DONT like something. Whatever happened to keep it moving? Nobody is actually coming up with ideas, just bytching about what they liked better as a kid
It's okay to grow and change and not be as interested in things. You don't need to project how YOU feel individually about a sport onto everyone else, that just makes you look like an idiot.
Here's an idea, watch what you like and what brings you enjoyment, and don't watch what doesn't. Very simple. If you like basketball, there's a lot of entertaining basketball to watch and you don't have to be one of these weirdos trying to convince other people of the reasons they don't like it anymore
