As usual:

Load management
Foul baiting

Laod management creates more unwatchable games, which hurts regular season interest

Foul baiting makes certain players uninteresting to watch

All this creates a cycnical aura that hurts interest
Right, it’s not just one reason,

I would also add that their was clear player movement fatigue from fans starting with KD leaving for GS.

Silver hurt the college to nba pipeline which helps build fans with the g league ignite stuff

Americans do not care foreign players in a real way.

Player movement is also the result of the league shortening contracts in response to a bunch of crippling long-term deals that were handed out. Teams used to be able to lock guys up for 6-7 years; now it's only 3-4 at a time so you're always under the gun.

It will never happen because the NBAPA would fight it to the death, but the league would be better with non-guaranteed contracts, NFL style, especially with these new hard cap rules. There's so many awful contracts in the NBA and teams are just stuck as a result.

It'd be better for the league if Denver could waive MPJ and Jamal Murray to put a better team around Jokic. Milwaukee and Phoenix have some brutal deals on their books around their superstars.

The absolutely need non guaranteed contracts and they need collusion. Teams should not be overpaying players that have not earned it. the Jalen greens of the world don’t deserve these huge contracts just by existing

It boggles my mind every summer how these teams don't negotiate with their players. I remember when Phoenix wisely played hardball with Ayton and there was a bunch of crying about them not giving him a max unless another team offered one and they had to match. :snoop:

Why did the Raptors give Immanuel Quickley 5/$162 million and Scottie Barnes 5/$224 million? :what:

You dudes are too in denial.

NBA is trash now

The In-Season Tournament is literally the only reason to watch the NBA right now. There’s literally no compelling teams or storylines, save for the NBA champion Celtics and the surprising 15-0 Cavs for casuals. The media does a HORRIFIC job marketing teams, and it definitely shows, when the same 6-7 teams get shown every week in National TV. It would be really bad right now if there was no in season tournament.

I will say this, giving a team purpose to win a trophy will at least increase the competitive atmosphere in these tournament games. I think it’s a good gimmick, and at least it gives us games to watch where players aren’t bored or treating it as just another regular season game.

If the nba had rivalries like every other sport they wouldn’t need gimmicks

Ask yourself this

Why should we watch

There was never a reason to watch regular season basketball. You were probably tricked because you liked a certain player at a young age

The part that I think people are struggling with is that because the NBA was such a part of our culture growing up and talking about what was going on, what new color ways of their shoe dropped, fake trades to the Lakers with every up and coming star, limited knowledge of the salary cap, believing the hype from ESPN about some new prospect coming out in college.

Now that we moved passed it, it's like we kinda upset that they still making more money than ever. Like how are they not being punished by the fact that I don't like the game anymore.

But as most people have said you fall in love with stars, not the basketball league. People watched the national tv games and were basically considered die hards. You can watch every single second of a players career now, either live or a condensed version of it 4 minutes after the game. So unless you really care about one particular player or team I don't see why you should ever watch. But don't think about that too much or you'll stop watching regular season games in other sports too (cause they don't matter either) and we really can't allow that thinking to get out
