Not only when you making $60 mil a year but also when you conserving for a playoff run and then shyt in the bed in the playoffs

The Spurs jump-started load management but they at least were making deep playoff runs most years so you could at least sell the fans that there was a greater purpose :skip:

They were resting healthy players to spite the league

They get no pass

I’m not giving them a pass. I will never forget buying tickets to see them play the Rockets and not finding out until I got to the arena that Duncan, Parker & Manu were healthy scratches. Or Pop completely ruining that Finals rematch with the Heat on TNT by sitting the starters

But what I’m saying is it was easier for the Spurs to sell to their fans that there was a bigger picture to it when they were actually going on deep playoff runs. Unlike say the 76ers or Clippers whose stars are in and out of the lineup all season, then they go out sad in the playoffs on top of it

That’s all I was trying to say :hubie:

I'm shocked that teams have played as many as 13/14 games already. Didn't the season start like a week or two ago? Also a lot has gone on over the past couple of weeks (election, etc), not sure people are even checking for the NBA yet

It seems like both the NBA and NHL seasons start a month too early.

Otherwise, not a lot of storylines right now, and you really need stars beyond the Lebron/Curry era to take over on a national scale

ESPN's abysmal coverage has contributed a lot to that.

The stigma of load management is gonna hang over the league for a while too since they took way too long to address it. Embiid announcing before the season he wasn't playing back-to-backs ever again after getting a 3/$193 million extension is not going to sit well with people. You cannot sell to fans, "yeah, this guy is getting over $60 million per season but he cannot play back-to-backs."
He physically can’t do it.

I'm guessing there will be a work stoppage the next time the contracts are up because both the players and the owners are going to realize tv contract value growth has peaked (and there may be an outright decline the next deal)

Then why is he getting rewarded with over $60 million per season? It's part of the job. That is not something you can sell to fans.

Exactly. That's low key a smack in the face to the average fan and people wonder why NBA fans have such vitrol hateful takes.

They love the sport of basketball but hate the politics, ownership and Diva like actions of the players behind it

U just talkin bout Stern era that’s all

Stern was the best commissioner in sports, he kept shyt in check. He was fining the Spurs for load management, made sure nikkas came to the game wearing business attire, and blocked the CP3 trade to the Lakers which in turn made 3 franchises somewhat watchable

Silver has the NBA lookin kinda crazy rn, the NBA finals which is supposed to be the pinnacle of the sport; looks no different from a regular playoff game. The in season tournament on the other hand looks like the actual NBA finals though.

Silver has geared the NBA too much to the content creation, click bait era of the internet. Players do whatever they want, play when they want and still get max deals for it.

NBA is by far the worst ran league, they get away with a lot due to the popularity of basketball and the legacy the league has

So you're bothered by how the players dress?

Uh just because teams recently sold for large amounts doesn’t mean the league doesn’t face future financial headwinds. Wachovia bought Golden West for over $20 billion before the subprime bubble burst. And Isbbia bought a controlling stake valuing the Suns at $4 billion not the entire team. You’re the one who sounds incompetent if you don’t think consistent year-over-year double digit declines in viewership isn’t a red flag. Bill Simmons, who is extremely well connected in those circles and actually knows the people who facilitate the team purchases, said in his pod the league faces hurdles finding someone willing to buy the Celtics or the expansion teams at the $5 billion they’re looking for.

Brother, imma keep it real with you. If you think Disney, Amazon and Comcast are facing an impending collapse that will have them unable to fulfill their contractual obligations, then we have much bigger issues than the NBA folding imma need you to rethink this statement.

That’s how much teams are willing to pay him.

It’s not his fault it’s the market. Teams will pay $60M for 40 games of Goat level center play.

The man physically just can’t do it. He’s fought this since he was a rookie.

League has spent 20 years telling viewers the regular season is meaningless and now they are wondering why people aren’t watching the regular season.

:dead:
Facts.

Jordan/Kobe stans gotta take responsibility for their part. The legacy talk and shytting on KD, Bron etc., has devalued regular season success.

It's all about rings now. Winning 60 games and an MVP doesn't mean shyt without a Finals MVP and a championship. It's more true now than ever.

3pt shooting doesn't help either. Too many guys play the exact same way.....plus a lot of your top guys aren't even American. Not many legit NCAA stars getting drafted and becoming elite. It's Euros and one & dones that need years of development to become useful players. There's no Caitlin Clark, JuJu, Angel, Paige Buckets etc...at least not enough on the men's side.

It's why the NFL loves college football. You basically let the colleges/universities help build the brand for your future rookies while they're in school. They come out and get drafted but you've been following dude since he was in high school, ready to commit to your alma mater. Jeremiah Smith, Arch Manning etc., still have like 2 full seasons minimum in CFB, but they damn near household names ALREADY.

NBA doesn't have that outside of legit prodigies like Wemby, Bron, KD etc.
