The all star game was never taken serously. Other than ‘92, ‘01, and a couple other years, it was seen as a joke.

The dunk contest was canceled for 2 seasons in the ‘90s. :mjlol:

Nothing has changed except aging millennials are hitting middle age and cant let go of their childhood. They’re worse than boomers at this point.

What does any of this have to do with players playing more defense in those games than they do now?

It’s nostalgia and delusion.

It's going to be interesting to see what these media rights deals look like a few years from now. They received a massive increase for no reason other than corporations fearing the unknown when cable eventually dies.
live sports is the only thing traditional tv networks have left

we all saw what a disaster the Netflix live stream of the Tyson Paul fight was - streaming companies are still a long way away

Adam Silver has spent the last 5 years transforming the nba into the euroleague :yeshrug:

You reap what you sow. The soul of the game is gone.

I also feel like the emphasis on star guys winning championships is no longer important thanks to Lebron failing to do so. The league had to justify Lebrons greatness by telling us that “winning a championship isn’t everything” at the same time also telling us that the regular season is too long and not important. So why should I watch? I gamble on this shyt now, and watch highlights, that’s it.

I have league pass so I can watch every game I. The league except my local
Team…which is cool because I can watch em on regular tv or basic cable…

…..wait

I can’t watch my team without a premium cable subscription?

The current nba is a terrible product and has some goofy ass business dealings going on

They do that to encourage local fans to get cable.

Mind you, I agree. It’s stupid. I live in Austin, no cable and I can’t watch the Spurs and Rockets but can watch every other team.

Honestly the product is a little less good this year. Last year it felt like teams were better, I think a lot of teams got worse in the offseason.

Things might get better as team gel, but yeah, nobody is excited to watch these early games because The teams aren’t exciting. A lot of teams are learning how to play together and are in need of a rebuild. I expect the ratings to pick up in a few weeks once some of these new roster teams that get good and go on runs start facing each other.

People keep telling me folks don’t watch tv no more.. well this is what happens. People say “well why watch the games when the highlights are on YouTube?” Well what if shyt gets so bad that they can’t put the games on anymore? They can kick the can down the road with the new deal but the decline is still going to happen. You’ll be hard pressed to get these younger folks to sit down and watch a 7:30 and 10:30 pm game on a Wednesday. You can’t keep putting on these big elaborate ass productions only for people to watch the highlights on YouTube, that’s crazy lol.

also they need to back off that ring talk a bit. It takes years sometimes to get to the top of the mountain. Look at Boston.

Pistons been on cable forever …

They put it on premium or you can get a 19.99 monthly subscription

Or you in the future apparently you can buy single games for 6.99 :dead:

This goes back to the NBA doing business with a bankrupt company

Who cares about ratings honestly? The NBA sold its packages at peak value because the networks are desperate for live sports. After this batch of deals, the packages will be cheaper but who cares?
:yeshrug:
That’s all rich people problems. You as a fan consume the sport however you do. I watch the 12 minute clips of the games I am interested every morning. I’ll stream a live game maybe twice a week on a bootleg site. I try to make 3-5 games a year.

The NBA is forever. Who cares about ratings if it ends up baseball or hockey status. You will still follow your team, make a few games, and talk shyt at the barber shop or on here. Ratings has no meaning to consumers. Some sucker network will buy the next packages at whatever lower price. All that means is less money for the owners and players. Are you mad if the only split 400Ms a year per team in 2030 instead of 450 per year?

Silver is putting so much effort into the all star game, who cares? It’s an exhibition game meant to showcase the stars. People will still watch.

Except that they don’t watch anymore. NBA All Star ratings are at historic lows. Nothing has fallen off more in the last 10-15 years than the NBA All Star Game. It’ll be interesting to see how they try to improve that game, now that it’s going to be back on broadcast TV (NBC) starting next season. Since it’s back on broadcast TV, Silver has to try to improve the game enough in order to have it stay on NBC. If ratings for the All Star game don’t improve in the first couple of years, NBC could easily kick it to Peacock, and it will be buried even further.

Yup a regular season game on a Saturday bulls vs Knicks , heat vs pacers was must watch

I only watch the NBA now final few minutes to see my raptors lose to get a good draft pick next year

There’s still great competitive games on every night, that hasn’t changed

Feels like it’s of a marketing disconnect

This Tuesday on TNT we’re gonna see the 15-0 Cavs going up against the reigning champion Celtics in a tournament game. That game if marketed right should be a huge deal

Had no idea of that game, zero marketing.
