Fans are the ones they are trying to get to subscribe.
The league is not prioritizing subscribers. They don’t get revenue from that. The tv packages are driven by ad dollars. Right now ad dollars (especially in live entertainment) are one of the few things that a guaranteed revenue stream for businesses (television) that is transforming.

Game has gone the way of baseball where everyone swinging for the fences. Only problem is HRs are one of the most exciting things in baseball, launching 3s in basketball is boring after the first few
Yeah, it's just tough. When the more valuable points are as easy to get as the least valuable points, and especially when it's mathematically valid, the strategy then becomes "why not go for it 90% the time?"

It's something the creators of the game, nor anybody else really thought would be possible until 10 years ago.

It'd be the same for every other sport. If slap shots were worth two (and as easy to get), players would be gunning from range at all times as well.

Football is another sport where there are multiple different point values, but getting a touchdown is still significantly harder than getting a field goal and teams have to pick and choose when is the appropriate time to go for it or take the points.

The energy seems to be off this season. A lot of players not playing. Injuries. Next generation of stars not translating -I thought we'd be basking in Wemby-Mania by now. More money than ever, but all the players seem unhappy and depressed. TNT is angry. Espn is in a desperate search of drama. Big trades from the off season not translating(yet). Hopefully things can improve or at least get smoother in a month or so. :francis:

What really got the snowball rolling downhill was the league allowing all of Harden's bullshyt and REWARDING it. That led to the rest of the league to start doing it.

That charlatan abused the rules and refs like nothing we've ever seen in professional sports. All the flailing, hooking, flopping, etc. And you know what might be worse than all of that? His fukking stepback three, which is a fukking travel. That shot is absolutely unguardable because it's a travel.

Which led to...

You can't defend this shyt so that's what you see 50 times a game. Why drive into traffic in the lane when you can always get off a step back three? Why go in the post when you can always get a step back three? Why break someone down when you can always get off a step back three? Why expand any extra energy other than lean into a defender, take three steps back and launch a three?

It's so bad we have a 7'5" "unicorn" spamming this bullshyt instead of operating in the Dirk spot.

That was six years ago and now we're seeing the fallout of it being allowed. ^^^^^^

As a side note to my rant above, Ja getting mixed up in all that foolishness off the court was devastating for the league because he is the opposite of everything people complain about the current league. He is dynamic and electric on a minute-by-minute basis when he plays. When you think of athletic artistry, he is at the top of the list in the current league.

Starts too early, but starts too late at night for me anymore. nikka ain’t starting a game at 9-10PM anymore regardless of who’s playing. I understand the time zone and ppl needing to make it to the games on the west coast, but that ain’t got shyt to do with me waking up early in the morning. I’ll catch that first matchup if it’s good and I’m cool
This is what I don’t get especially considering prime time NFL games start at 8PM.

NBA playoffs have never been short in (most of) our lifetimes.

1984 they got rid of 1st round byes, went to 16 teams, and it was 15 playoff wins for a title. In 2003, it went up to 16.

The regular season was arguably even more meaningless back in 1983-1984 with 16 teams out of 23 making the playoffs ... but it ended with Lakers vs Celtics in 7 games. Larry Bird played 79 regular season games that season, btw.
The other thing is teams used to throw road games even more than today. NBA teams used to travel poorly. That changed sometime in the aughts as every team got private aircraft and better hotels.

It's going to be interesting to see what these media rights deals look like a few years from now. They received a massive increase for no reason other than corporations fearing the unknown when cable eventually dies.
