People knock players and it warranted in many cases but its never any smoke for owners. NBA used to operate like a sport with such a long regular season should... with a short postseason. They got greedy and pushed for more. Well thats gonna eventually take away from the regular season. You cant expect guys to go all out for 82 games AND 4 full playoff rounds. They aint cutting back so like you said, the only way to actually give some incentive was to actually give more teams a chance and give top teams something to avoid :manny:

And fans gotta be accountable too. All this ringzzz talk completely devalues the regular season. If a guy does go hard for 82 games and does special shyt all season you just gonna shyt on him if he isnt fortunate enough to be on a championship team.

Yep, same as the IST

In an ideal world it’s unnecessary, but if it incentivizes teams to play with more intensity in Nov/Dec games and gets fans more invested then its worth it

I've tried to stay away from negativity trap

But I have to admit, teams spamming threes is getting really boring

I mean I think it’s fine if people prefer other styles of play, I agree that homogeneity of play isn’t best for the sport aesthetically and teams need to play to the strengths of the players they have

But I also don’t think the “everyone plays the exact same” is as true as some think

Fans are not the reason for the mass increase in revenue. It’s media companies buying long term sports tv deals because cable bundles are dying and live tv is seen as the future of tv viewing.

Fans are the ones they are trying to get to subscribe.

I guess I dont really like the aesthetic of shooting threes 🤷

I like basketball for its athleticism.

I think the variety of the past is overstated as well. Everybody used to push the pace play through their C in the halfcourt. Then everybody slowed down and you did have more variance regarding who they ran it through but concept overall was mostly the same. Sports are copycat. People follow what works.

All that said I am not a fan of the 3pt spamming because it wasnt organic. The rules and officiating are tilted towards the 3. I would love to see fair fight between the 3 and postups/drives without the zone but I know it will never happen. But you cant blame teams for doing what they are pretty much forced into doing.

Game has gone the way of baseball where everyone swinging for the fences. Only problem is HRs are one of the most exciting things in baseball, launching 3s in basketball is boring after the first few

At least with baseball the league is trying to figure out a way to create ball in play game again

NBA playoffs have never been short in (most of) our lifetimes.

1984 they got rid of 1st round byes, went to 16 teams, and it was 15 playoff wins for a title. In 2003, it went up to 16.

The regular season was arguably even more meaningless back in 1983-1984 with 16 teams out of 23 making the playoffs ... but it ended with Lakers vs Celtics in 7 games. Larry Bird played 79 regular season games that season, btw.

Its only been 16 games for 20. Playoff games count extra. So adding one game is significant (I believe the NFL is seeing this now with their regular season with all thes injuries). Cant forget that when they expanded to 16 playoff teams, rampant expansion immediately followed as well. So you was playing against a lot of dudes that had no business in the league. Only respecting nikkas with rings (yes it was always pressure to win but nikkas without rings used to get way more respect) is a new development too. And lastly nikkas (and more importantly teams) werent worried about longevity. Bird played 13 years. PG has played 14...and he just got $200Ms guaranteed despite his age and injury history. And its all in an ill fated, misguided attempt to win a chip. So you think they gonna push him out there like they did in Bird's day?

Change takes time...especially in sports. The 3 was brought in in 79 and yet teams were still shooting long twos for decades. And as I said, nikkas are copycats. Once Pop started this DNP-Old shyt the floodgates opened.

The play in makes the regular season almost meaningless. Plus the in season tournament is a failed experiment they need to get rid of that asap.

But I think the main problem is that the NBA has been without a true superstar since Kobe retired. Watching Steph shoot 3s all game isn’t entertaining as well as watching LeBron dragging his 40yo ass up and down the court scoring 11pts. NBA should have unhitched their wagon from that train a long time ago. This isn’t 2012. Plus 3 1/2 titles in 22 seasons for a “superstar” is fukkin pathetic :scust:
