Hmm, than I must have mistaken it with another interview. I vividly remember reading about Premier saying he was ready to do the Premier produced Nas album. Nas just had to call.

Premier said in an interview mayyybeee around 2013 I believe that Nas talked to him about doing the album and that Nas specifically asked Premier to tour with him. The overall sense from that I got was that Nas was waiting to get off Def Jam and perhaps do the project once he got situated with Mass Appeal.

Again this is from Premier not Nas just to clarify

Hmm, than I must have mistaken it with another interview. I vividly remember reading about Premier saying he was ready to do the Premier produced Nas album. Nas just had to call.

According to this article, they actually started working on songs for Hip Hop Is Dead. Nas had already started with Salaam Remi, but records were made according to Premo:

"Oh yeah," Premier said. "It's on and poppin'. We're just cutting tracks, cutting tracks, cutting tracks. Whatever works, we keep. Whatever don't work, we don't keep. That's always been our formula. It's real fun with Nas. Just like a day hanging out, but a good joint comes out of it. We ain't never did a dud. Every one's been a banger."

Premier says that fans will be pleased at the level of Nas' focus.

"Nas knows what he has to do," Premier explained. "He knows it's a lot of, 'He's older,' or '[Can he still] do it?' or 'That's not my generation.' He knows what he gotta do. I told him, 'If you don't know, let me know. I'll make sure you stay guided,' 'cause I really am a fan of his and I wanna buy a Nas album.

"We always switch up the formula," Premier added. "Guru [Premier's MCing partner in Gang Starr] used to say we update our formula. Nas played me some joints that Salaam Remi [produced]. Tight! He's flowing like crazy. That inspired me to go in there and really hammer something out. I don't like nobody to outdo me on tracks — I'm inspired by other people that do hot tracks. If it's banging, I give it up. I don't care if Mickey Mouse did it."

DJ Premier's Resume Gets Even Hotter: Collabs With Aguilera, Amerie, Nas On Tap

Nas was supposed to be on Christina Aguilera's '"Still Dirrty", but he isn't. Song was produced by Premo.

Nas never made the album with DJ Premier but has now made 3 forgettable projects with Hit-Boy and for me that’s his career in a nutshell since Illmatic.

Premo is an absolute legend but I'm not convinced he could give Nas better albums than KDII and Magic today. It's not the 90's/00's anymore. :yeshrug:

Magic sounds like a 2022 version of a 90's Nas album. If that makes sense. Some songs remind me of 90's Nas, but current. Like "Speechless" reminds me of "The Message" and "Affirmative Action".

Im not even saying he should do the Preemo album in 2022. It’s just that he was giving us
Wack albums like Hip-Hop Is Dead & then wack albums like Nasir with Kanye. Dudes track record has been suspect over the years working with producers. These albums with Hit-Boy are no better than the Preemo/Royce 5’9 albums production wise so people saying Preemo beats ain’t hitting anymore are deflecting from Nas poor choice of beats over the years. Even Kings Disease production was cool at best. Benny The Butcher production on Burden Of Proof was definitely better than the beats Nas chose. I see in here people saying this album is a classic and like a 2020’s Illmatic and Im like be realistic! :dwillhuh: This shyt boring as hell :hubie:

Sounds better than anything I’ve heard from Griselda.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
We've talked about people who think Illmatic is Nas best work, and that's all they want. @Heavy_Handz is just one of those people. We've come across these people all the time. 80 percent of his critics are made up of them. His sentiments shouldn't come across as surprising.
These aren’t Nas fans. That’s the issue. They paint it like it’s something wrong with Nas when it’s actually that simple fact that they won’t admit. Point of this nikka coming in the thread with basically nothing constructive to offer?

Maybe he's being constructive by saying what he said. Guess the music isn't moving him. But I guess at that point are you really a Nas fan if you don't like a majority of his music?
