It's part of the story - 2018 was a down period of his career and the Kelis allegations did hurt his perception, and compounded with Nasir and the Lost Tapes 2 getting lukewarm receptions, things weren't looking so good for Nas going into KD - so that he's had more success since then is a testament to the strength of the music and Nas just being able to do his own thing.

Y'all gotta understand that media writers aren't in the service of fans and are under no obligation to only cover the good parts. Y'all want critics to be critics and not just cheerleaders, right? The article is telling a story of Nas' late career second wind - and the triumph of a second wind is preceded by tumult and turmoil. The bad part of Nas' career are part of his story, plain & simple.

He didn't even go in on the bad like he could have.

That song was so "obscure" that it introduced me to Nas and made me a fan because the video got a lot of play back then (I don't recall the Ilmatic songs getting much play on BET let alone elsewhere though I was young at the time so I might have missed it or forgotten).
There was a one on one video? Do you have a link? I’ve never seen that.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
nikkas quick to come in here to call out “stans” for being sensitive or whatever. But don’t be saying shyt about the blatant disrespect that DOES need to be called out. That’s funny to me. Lol. Either way I didn’t read the Rolling Stone shyt cause what’s the point? Good or bad it wasn’t a review.

I was watching the Rah Digga Lord Jamar podcast and she got so mad at them nikkas she left out for a second. Lol. Cause Lord Jamar said he ain’t listen to the Nas shyt and was tryna be funny and joke and she got TIGHT. Then they started talkin bout who the Goat and Jamar said Jay Z is the objective GOAT and no one else can be in the conversation. Rah Digga agreed but said her personal Goat is Nas.

I'd love for anyone that feels this way to tell me how Nas can't be in the conversation.

This is like someone trying to convince me the earth is flat. I don't believe you but still love to hear your argument

Nice take, kinda harsh on some projects but I can respect that. Mine would have approx the same rankings but slightly higher overall.

Illmatic - 10/10
It Was Written - 9/10
I Am - 7/10
Nastradamus - 6/10
Stillmatic - 9/10
Lost Tapes - 10/10
God's Son - 8/10
Street's Disciple - 6.5/10
HHID - 6.5/10
Untitled - 7/10
Life Is Good - 8/10
Nasir - 6.5/10
Lost Tapes 2 - 6.5/10
King's Disease - 7.5/10
King's Disease 2 - 8.5/10
Magic - 9/10

Call me a homer but in my opinion, Nas has never released an album that was below 7/10 other than Nastradumus.......... And maybe I Am (and tracks 2-6 on that album are as good a start to an album as I've ever heard)

And I Am and Nastradumus also come with the massive caveat that those 2 projects were supposed to be a double album with different, superior songs. And the story is Nas got fukked over by his label and we never got to see that double album which from the track listings out there would have been a sure-fire classic.

Literally everything else is above 8/10 for me. . People shyt on the SD, HHID, Untitled trifecta, but I have to wonder what some are listening to. Nas is just too lyrically talented...

And that's what makes Nas the greatest of all time for me. He's hands down the most lyrical mainstream rapper of all time and his subject matter and amount of dimes he drops in his rhymes seem inexhaustive. You learn new stuff listening to Nas. Its kind of cliche to say about him but you can tell dude is incredibly well read.

You can't seem to get enough of what he has to say. Guys like Jay and Em are really talented but they have a limit to what they rap about. And even if you include the underground rappers, and I listen to pretty much all the illest ones, NONE of them can combine lyrical content with depth of subject matter like Nas does.

This is how I rate his catalogue:

Illmatic - 10/10
It Was Written - 10/10
I Am - 7/10
Nastradamus - 5.0/10
Stillmatic - 8.5/10
God's Son - 9.0/10
Street's Disciple - 8.5/10
HHID - 8.5/10
Untitled - 8.0/10
Life Is Good - 9/10
Nasir - 7/10
King's Disease - 7.5/10
King's Disease 2 - 8.5/10
Magic - 9.0/10

Other material:

Lost Tapes - 9.5/10
Distant Relatives - 9.5/10
Lost Tapes 2 - 6.5/10

They talk outta their ass then take exception when their bullshyt gets called out.

Problem I got with Rosenberg types is they make a living off hip hop without really contributing anything back, but he's quick to shyt on a Nas or a Chuck D. Just don't sit right.

They love talking about Nas stans being sensitive but pretend the double standard don't exist. Like, we not blind. They nitpick the fukk out of every Nas project but quick to give a pass to the Jays and the Ye's when they drop a mediocre project. It's so obvious but they pretend it's just Nas fans being sensitive

If you love the album why do reviewers opinions bother you so much. It’s really just that one persons thoughts.

You can't possibly be this naive.
Using your logic, why does vlad ak or charlemagne opinion matter?

Because that's how narratives are created.

Media is the most powerful force in entertainment for a reason

They don’t :skip:

And if you’re enjoying the music that’s coming through your headphones why exactly does narratives matter to you? It’s music not politics.
