Y'all keep wanting it to be one way, though - because when Nas first announced King's Disease, almost everybody was skeptical of Hit-Boy's production and fearful it'd turn out wack. But were pleasantly surprised - but again, and I can't strees this enough, they can still have gripes even if they still like the overall product.

Y'all are on some big time stan shyt.

Not true, that was mainly the same "I want Illmatic boomp bap not trap type beats" heads saying that; but if you search some of the old threads, numerous people were saying that HitBoy was diverse and could easily mesh modern trap drums with Nas' type vibe because he was good with soulful type samples.

I respect your opinion. However, you said "the beats are good but can be better".

I can say Alchemist, Premo, Madlib, Pete Rock, Hav or Large Pro are making good beats but they can be better. OF COURSE they can be better because almost anything in life can be improved upon. It is such a vague comment that warrants a more detailed explanation. That's all.

I don't remember seeing much enthusiasm for Hitboy either. Gotta give credit to Nas for seeing the potential early on, because I doubt most of his fans did.

Go back and look at the King’s Disease thread. The first 7 or so pages the only posters who weren’t excited are the SAME posters who are always bytching about Nas not working with “insert boom bap 90’s producer plus Madlib”. Most everyone else was either posting examples of Hit-Boy songs that were dope or anticipating the album.

There’s actually several posters actively ROOTING for the album to be better than LT2, which had all the stuck in the 90’s nikkas favorite producers on there.

You keep framing the LT2 reaction as "people getting what they want but still complaining" but that's dishonest - LT2 consisted of literal throwaways and sounded like it, that's why it got such a lukewarm reaction. Doesn't matter if it's Pete Rock, RZA, Alchemist etc. when it's their C+ material that didn't see the light of day for a reason - and it being under the Lost Tapes banner had people's expectations high (since LT1 was leaked tracks only available in shytty radio/mixtape quality, not throwaways), plus we all missed the interview where Nas lowkey shytted on LT2 prior to it coming out.

Okay I'll take your word for it.

The reception of LT2 is still wild to me.

Lost Tapes 2 were not a collection of “throw Aways”. Many of those songs (Beautiful Life, Lost Freestyle, Royalty) were VERY close to making the respective albums they were recorded for (Life Is Good) and some were actually recorded specifically for LT2 (The Art Of It and It Never Ends) now regardless on if you actually LIKE the songs or not, Lost Tapes 2 is no more a collection of throw Aways than the first Lost Tapes is.

Also link the interview where Nas shytted on Lost Tapes 2. I’ve NEVER seen nor heard Nas shytting on his own albums, even Nasir he’s said publicly he has no regrets about.

Nas Says He Held Back ‘The Lost Tapes 2’ Because He Didn’t Want To Disrespect Pete Rock’s Legacy | Genius

“When I didn’t feel like it got to the point where I heard it in my head, I didn’t do nothing with it,” he said.

This was especially true for the records produced by Pete Rock, because of the magnitude of his talent, Nas said.

“I didn’t want to put out the Pete records cause I didn’t want to disrespect his legacy by having a record I hadn’t put my all into,” he continued.

Eventually, he came to the realization that his work with Rock didn’t have to live up to the standards of a single like “The World Is Yours,” and that the songs deserved a release.

“It don’t have to be like the other records, it just is what it is,” he said. “Holding it back wasn’t doing me no good either way.”

He even said in the full interview that he didn't even really want to put LT2 out for a while but his team talked him into it.

He didn’t wanna put the Pete Rock records out because he knows how fickle his fans can be and didn’t want Pete going thru that.

You take that as Nas shytting on Lost Tapes 2?? All he’s saying is that he wanted to live up to the legacy of The World Is Yours until deciding that the fear of that “legacy” was holding both him and the songs back.

This is no way is Nas shytting on his own album.

Can we go back to talking about this album?
Real talk! These Nas album threads always turn into some bullshyt. They talk more about shyt that has nothing to do with today and what Nas is blessing his fans with. They always want to turn this into some past tense shyt. No matter the subject it never has a damn thing to do with the album. Hype for a day then the thread takes a turn for the worse. They stop talking about the album, listening to the album & streaming the album. Nas fan base is similar to his critics. Shout out to those fans who really appreciate an artist like Nas.

Dope album!
I think people are forgetting one crucial fact…

A Nas/Alch Album
Nas/Madlib Album
Nas Premo Album
Nas/Large Pro Album
Nas/AZ Album
Nas/Firm Album

Would not work for one simple reason…

Nas does NOT WANT TO DO THAT shyt

If Nas wanted to do an album with Premier then he would’ve been the first person Nas hit up when he was free of Def Jam. Nas could’ve done an album with Alchemist at any point the past 20 years. He had an entire album recorded with Timbaland that Timbaland said he was his best production in years. Nas wasn’t feeling it.

If NAS isn’t inspired to do the shyt, then forcing him to work with a producer, ANY PRODUCER, is going to turn out horribly. Nas needs to be inspired and for whatever reason Alchemist is the producer for Armand Hammer and Boldy James. NOT Nas. Madlib is the producer for MF Doom and Freddie Gibbs. NOT Nas. Premier is the producer for Royce Da 5’9. NOT Nas.

Hit-Boy at present, is the producer for Nas. Ya’ll think Nas just sits around and listens to beat CD’s from Premier, Alchemist, and Madlib, hears some world shattering shyt that puts fire in his belly and inspiration in his soul and says to himself “Nah dun. Run me some other shyt”. Of COURSE not.

Them dudes ain’t the producers for Nas. Its simple as that. Nas wouldn’t make anything with them that would be at all better than KD1, KD2, or Magic because they haven’t INSPIRED him too.

This the exact reason most of these producers, rappers and journalists hate Nas so much... He doesn't conform to what the trends are in their pop circles... Nas does what he feels like at whatever stage of life/career he at
