Beats are straight, Nas sounds phenomenal, just nothing blew him away.
They brought up NY State of Mind in regards to Premo - basically saying, if you're gonna invoke Premo with the drums and the scratches that shyt better live up to all of the Nas/Premo tracks and they felt it missed the mark there. And to be fair, the loop on Wave Gods didn't exactly fit the vibe of the Living Proof drums.

Rosenberg also said with these Nas and Hit-Boy stuff...nothing goes lower than a 6.5 or so for him...but nothing goes higher than an 8 to him either. So he's saying it's straight

case in point is Rosenberg and Ciph. The whole time they talked about Magic, they just kept talking about how none of the songs reached the level of NY State Of Mind.how the duck so you expect an MC to keep making one of the GREATEST Hip Hop songs of all time!? And then Ciph couldn’t even remember the proper name of I Gave You Power, kept calling it Stray Bullwt ( the Organized Konfusion song) these cats don’t even know Nas like that and they constantly expect him to make Illmatic 4.0 let alone 2.0.
I mean look....Rosenberg in general has been out to fukking lunch on all his podcasts for a minute (I used to listen to Cheap Heat but stopped in 2017 cause hes on auto pilot) and I find his opinions on stuff sound like someone who's not engaged in things. Its probably cause he has too many shows to manage now or whatever but it also explains why Juan Ep stops and starts and doesnt have the same engagement like before. Ciph in general for years now seems like hes detached from whats currently going on in hip hop and is just doing the stand up comedy thing.
