Why do ya'll keep acting like people are criticizing these albums because they're "stuck in the 90s" like Hit-Boy is making contemporary modern beats that dusty mfs can't get with. All he is doing is making some offbrand Roc-a-Fella sounding shyt with some tinny fisherprice boom bap thrown in for good measure. There's nothing forward thinking or cutting edge about his production. It's as out of sync with modern hip hop as whatever washed sounding shyt Premo, Pete etc are putting out.

Exactly. Most of hitboy's beats are the definition of "stuck in the 90's"....which is my exact problem with em. They don't sound modern at all. Even the trap beats feel like trap beats from 10 years ago. Tell me why the blackstar albums beats from 25 years ago sound more polished than hitboy's shyt.

There's plenty of great boom bap today that actually sounds modern. With great mixing and hard drums. Even a lot of producers doing trap/boom bap fusion beats that are top tier. Hitboy is just not on that level.

He mentioned Pretty Young Girl as a low point when in my opinion its one of the strongest joints and he singles out Nas rapping against A.I. as something bad saying that fans would rather hear Nas rap about street shyt (again, putting him in the Illmatic box)


But have a read for yourselves

A 3.8 is closer to a 4 than a 3.5 but yeah this album is clearly better than Magic 2 and they gave that the same score. And I don’t think (matter of fact we know they weren’t ) these were Magic 2 leftovers when there’s better tracks

That's what I'm talking about. This album has that feeling that you get from rock music, that 80s AOR feeling. You could turn "No Tears" into a power ballad if you wanted to and it wouldn't change too much.

I would love to see this album performed live with a band.
