Score 4/5

“King’s Disease III feels like a beautiful summation of Nas’ new era: a delicately melancholic, nostalgic, yet outstandingly modern take on classic hip-hop portrayed with charming boastfulness or layered emotional depth. It is as much a reflection of its creator and the scene around him. There’s no one better to paint the picture than the man who started it.”

I came up with a ranking days ago. With Nas, it's really difficult because an album that's ranked low doesn't mean it's a bad album, but I think what I value the most is consistency. And also, what songs/albums mean the most when you tell the story of Nas? So, here we go:

Illmatic
It Was Written
The Lost Tapes
Stillmatic
Life is Good

This is the section of Nas albums that can't be touched. It's legendary status. Life is Good is the only Nas album from his recent years that I feel comfortable placing here right now.

God's Son
KD3/Magic
KD2
KD
I Am...

God's Son could easily be legendary status on a different day. I Am... has some of Nas' best songs, but it's not consistent enough for me to rank it higher. I could throw out half that album without thinking about it. The Hit Boy albums have the consistency and are going to grow in status as the years go on.

Untitled
HHID
Lost Tapes II
Street's Disciple
Nasir
Nastradamus

The first three albums here have consistency and quality, but not the status. HHID is only talked about because of the title, which is a shame. These are all underrated albums. The last three have genuine problems that keep them from being ranked higher. Street's Disciple has too many songs, Nasir was a rushed EP, and Nastradamus is the only Nas album I don't like. It has songs I like ("Project Windows," "Come Get Me," "You Owe Me"), but I don't care to listen to it at all.

Going by this. I have to put untitled in your second section. I love untitled.

If we rating the albums again here’s mine based on what I actually return to

5: Illmatic, IWW, Stillmatic, Lost Tapes, KD3 - each one of these I felt were flawless from the first time I heard them and still feel that way.

4.5: Distant Relatives, KD2, Magic - near perfect albums I keep in rotation

4: Untitled, KD1, I am…, Nastradamus, God’s Son, QBs Finest - albums I enjoy and still go back to despite a couple flaws

3.5: LIG, Streets Disciple, LT2, The Firm - I don’t go back to these for the most part but think they have some good songs

3: HHID - a couple of good tracks but inconsistent

2.5: Nasir - I blame this on Kanye.
