Just for perspective, KD2 actually is critically acclaimed. I mean, it's no longer on track to be the most critically acclaimed album ever or whatever, but it doesn't really need to be.
Exactly, 88 on Metacritic is huge. It's actually his best score, excluding the Illmatic 20th anniversary re-issue.
It's the same score as The Blueprint, Bandana, Fishscale, Alfredo and above DAYTONA, College Dropout, Late Registration, Pinata...

A lot of classic rap albums of the 21st century (Metacritic wasn't around in the 90s) barely have a 80+ score.

You see that's why Regular Nas fan's can't stand y'all Stans because if I up King Disease Thread around 70% of you nikkas called King Disease a classic now it's not a classic because the moment got to y'all and decided KD2 is a classic and KD1 is not:russ:

Boy y'all wild

I am a regular Nas fan... NEITHER of the KD albums are classics or even enter the top 5 in his catalog.

But KD2 is objectively a better project all around. Idk what you're listening to.

And let me make myself clear as a Nas fan to the Nas Stan. I'm not saying this album won't be revisited down the years and get it's Classic Rating that y'all fill it deserve right now but check this out this is Nas new beginning of his 2nd half of his career and it's eerie similar to his first of his career. King Disease 1 is his Illmatic and King Disease 2 is his It Was Written

I don't think that comparison fits at all...but then again I'm not in the sect that thinks lowkey IWW >>> Illmatic, it's simply not better than Illmatic...you can argue that nothing in Rap is. KD1 is a great album, specifically musically. KD2 is greater musically, definitely greater lyrically, and just feels weightier, imo.

But off that, I'm a super duper Nas fan but I can't vibe with the "stans". It's like I'm a lifelong devoted Knicks fan, would never support any other team except the Knicks, and I'm at a playoff game cheering them on crazily but still smh @ the dude next to me with a Knicks tattoo and "Knicks" cut into his hair and "KNICKS" painted onto his chest, standing there chest naked making a scene and being extra,. I fux with him because I like seeing my Knicks get love...but he's still a weirdo to me. A part of Nas's core is definitely that, male and female.

:mjlol:

Look at y'all at first y'all was saying hip hop dx is a black hip hop site they about to save the day now y'all like fukk dx:russ:

Now y'all craving for The Glory years for The Source when we all know The Source Golden Boy was Nas didn't they gave Untitled 4.5 mics and we all know that shyt ain't a 4.5 album. Nas only have one album that was 3.5 and The Majority was 5 Mics, 4.5 Mic's, 4 Mic's.

That's not true his Emceeing on King Disease 1 was better lyrically, technically, poetry, story telling then on King Disease 2 we seen a vicious combination of an elder Nasty Nas, The Wiser leader Boss of the family Nas Escobar, elder Black revolutionary Nasir and God Son that came together and blended perfectly, very similar to Pac on 7 Day Theory when different sides The Black Panther Rebel of The Underground, The Thug, The Poet, The torture blues Man, The West Coast Rider, The Black Jesus learn to co exist together.

King Disease is a better album then King Disease 2 not only lyrically but sonically Ultra Black was that single that this album didn't have, Car 85, The Firm reunion and so much more, The album just have that feeling that you listening to something great, an event. I can go on. But hip hop fans know that album was Nas

King Disease 2 was beating my Chest, acknowledge me, I'm that Gangsta, I got that money now, I'm that nikka that from the east coast that didn't back down from Pac and Hit-Boy I'm better than my teacher. It felt like they wanted the respect that they deserve when really they had the respect, and that's why in some of the fan's and music critic eyes it seem forced.

It's a great hip hop album, Not a Classic Album and not better than the original
See this is how u feel. And imma combat it. Lemme ask u. Please post examples on how the emceeing was better from a technical standpoint on KD1? Rather than just stating it over and over. Yea this album didn’t have Ultra Black but it has Rare. Which is currently streaming more than that single did. And has gotten greater reception. Ultra Black was getting shytted on by certain emcees and fans and being made fun of. I think its fire but u can’t say he doesn’t have that. No he doesn’t have Car 85 but he has shyt like Moments. He doesn’t have a Full Circle which was big for him but he brought Lauryn back to rapping after not spitting a new verse publicly for 20 years. Plus the quality of the song “Nobody” is better than Full Circle even tho I LOVE Full Circle. I’m trying to combat what u saying without shytting on KD1 cause I agree with u. KD1 was amazing. But THIS is as well. Nas also rapped more on here. For instance songs like 27 Summers was only 1 verse and 2 hooks. He had 3 verse songs on here. Less features. Etc etc. This whole narrative that he was bragging the whole album needs to end right here as well. I can quote MAD lyrics on here where he spittin some real shyt. It’s sprinkled all throughout the album. Bottom line is they are both great bodies of work and u happen to like the vibe of KD1 better. But that’s ur opinion I can’t get with anyone saying he lyrically regressed on this album from that one AT ALL.

I don’t think Hip Hop DX don’t like black music or artists. They do be on some bullshyt sometimes. But that writer clearly had an agenda and THATS the type of music reviewing I don’t fukk wit. shyt. YOUR review of the album was better and I don’t even agree with u. But I respect it.

Whats yall top 3 songs on this? yo Ive played this shyt till im numb i think a need a break. My face everytime RARE comes on tho :scust:

Top 3

Rare
Nobody
Store Run

After extreme stanlike dissection id say 1st half of the album is the stronger half. I don't know where to place this in the NaS album list. Like is it better than Distant Relatives? Not to me. Or LT2? Maybe? It just adds to an already GOAT collection. Its crazy this man is almost 50 doing this shyt. Salute the Big homie from BK but he ain't doing this.

My Top 3 is definitely

Nobody
Rare
Count Me In

Respect your stance no doubt, that's what's it all about having opinions and Discussion

Now the Comparison I'm talking about how Illmatic and IWW Cause a division between Nas fan's and music critic's. Music Critic's and Nas fan's prefer Illmatic over IWW when it dropped and the new Nas fan's prefer IWW

Now it's like the reverse Music Critic's and Nas the older Nas fan's who's my age 44 and older and in their late 30's what I seen so far like KD1 better and those new IWW Nas fan's who turned into Nas Stans and still fight that good fight of justifying IWW is better than Illmatic prefer KD2 over KD1, and these 2 albums are Nas first 2 of his being Independent Career

Case in point The hip hop heads at Okayplayer forums majority prefer KD1 over KD2 and those posters are around my age, they are an old head hip hop forum. We from a different era 88-96 and we listened to great hip hop and we have a different ear

I get the analogy you're trying to make, but I don't think it works because of the bolded. The rift between Illmatic and IWW is ideological, not generational.

And I hope you don't think people on the coli are any younger than Okayplayer :mjlol: They're just a little more stuck in the past over there but they aren't OG's compared to the coli. Most of the people in this thread have followed Nas's whole career.

I just wanted to add:

I think the general consensus is that KD2 is a great album

Do your hero a favor by not undermining his previous work in KD1. I personally prefer KD2 but I think most of us in here can agree that when KD1 dropped we were taken by surprise. It also dropped a year ago and was essentially a part of the nba playoff tracklist

Y'all probably played the fukk out the album and now that KD2 dropped it has eclipsed it because it's here and now. Not even a full week yet.

Props to nas for dropping 2 superb quality albums with the chance of a third.

He had a breakfast club interview when KD1 dropped. Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't he say another album after KD1 (KD2) and then a secret album?

He caught a second wind for the rap shyt
