Everything about the song is on point my man.

Ive already listened to it at least 30 times today. :wow:

The world needs Lauryn.

The illest shyt about her is she said way back then that she would never sell her soul to maintain her fame, and out of all the hundreds of rappers I’ve heard make similar claims at one point in their career, her, Andre, Mos Def, and Jay Electronica are the ONLY people that stayed true.

And those 4 artists will always be held in the highest esteem by me, above everyone else.

Erykah would be in that category too, but she let them crackas slap glitter off her and her sister's ass when them checks wasn't hittin like they used to, and there's no coming back from that, but other than that unforgivable transgression, she's been solid too...

Lauryn stepped away from the industry at the height of her career, after the industry showered her with 5 Grammys, and tried to make her their latest example of a black person talking that righteous shyt all the way up until the point that they decided to give them fame and fortune, knowing all that black righteous shyt would go out the window, and she said “fukk y’all” cut her locs, stopped making up her face, threw on a doobie wrap, a ball cap, and picked up an acoustic guitar.

:wow:

I would add Digable Planets to that rare crop of uncompromised artists too :wow:

lol I'm surprised no one pointed this out yet. This is what I mean when I say Nas kinda has an underrated sense of humor. I'm living in the DC area and its funny how accurately he painted that whole scene.

Go in Chocolate City

DC girls saddity

:wow:

That line along with that whole verse describes the brunch scene out here to a T breh!

Thats why I said Life Is Good’s legacy needs to be protected at ALL costs. That album is a modern classic and had hella impact when it came out. It set the standard for middle age rappers to make “grown man” albums. Which is something he attempted to do with Streets Disciple but absolutely NAILED with LIG.

The song writing, flow, and execution are 100% top notch.

It should be a HUGE thing to say any post 2012 Nas album is ahead of LIG. I think Kings Disease Part 2 is better BUT I feel like it should be much much more of a debate and conversation.

Whenever someone says “This is Nas’s best album since Stillmatic” I know they haven’t actually LISTENED to a Nas album after Stillmatic because the disrespect Gods Son, Untitled, and Life Is Good gets is fukking crazy

cosign on everything said:takedat:

I get why people would say this is better than Life is Good. That album is largely for his day one fans that are in their 40’s or ppl in their 30’s that have OG’s around them or been in some shyt. For those that don’t like it, revisit it when you’ve had kids, wives, then you’ll appreciate it more.

Either way, let’s not rank albums and compare, let’s just soak in a great hip hop moment with this album. There’s so much to digest in this 51 minute gem.

SINY!!
The production rides a lot more on this compared to KD1

Agreed. As great as KD1 is (still has great replay value IMO), Nas and Hit-Boy refined and polished what they were seeking sound wise.

It’s a huge album for Hit-Boy, who still had his detractors even after the big 2020/early 2021 he has had. There is no mistaking it now……at the moment he is a top tier, go to producer (if he wasn’t already).

Although KD2 just dropped a few days ago, it’s clear it’s going to have staying power and that it’ll be heavyweight contender for the next batch of music awards….but….taking a moment to think ahead….should they do a KD3, it would be one hell of a trilogy series/3 album run by anyone in any genre.

Large Pro was in the studio with Nas a couple months ago. Dunno if it was for music or just hanging out. And he DJ’d at a Sweet Chick restaurant this weekend. I’m gonna assume their relationship is good.

I also can respect Large Pro’s criticism more than the others. When he talked about Nasir he said if he had presented the Cops Shot The Kid beat to Nas it would be rejected for being lazy basically. And I can see that point of view. Kanye’s involvement was so lazy and uninspired that I get why he felt some type of way, seeing the production/engineering/etc handled like that.

I wonder if a lot of OGs are going to hit up for a track
