Replace SOS with ADULT FILM and LIG is a perfect album to me.

SOS ranks with the few Nas songs that are really just unredeemable to me (Big Girl, SOS..).

I won't pretend like YKTV and Spicy are genius tracks, but they bop enough for me to be very OK with them without it detracting from my score. If it was a 9 track project and they were included it would be a different story.

No doubt. Yeah, you can't recreate the past and it would be absolutely framed in comparison to Illmatic if he tried to make a sequel, even if it was an unofficial sequel.

This is all the proof I need. QB Politics is a beautiful song. I love it. It's one of my favorites on Lost Tapes 2. From what I understand, that actual beat was made on Pete's SP-1200 circa 1994/1995, and even though the song was recorded after Prodigy passed, the beat itself is super old.

As much as I love that song, the beat itself is from the Illmatic era and I don't want to hear a full Nas album of beats like that.

It's actually even older than that. I vaguely recall Pete Rock posting about it on Instagram and said it was an unfinished beat from around '92. Closer to Mecca And The Soul Brother era than Illmatic era.

When you take into consideration that Eminem battled a drug addiction...The fact that he's still able to rap at a high level is very commendable.....I've never been a fan of Em's music/content, but I respect the love he has for his craft and the respect he has for other lyricists.
Prime Eminem would’ve killed this. I hate what Wayne’s influence has done to him. I fukk with the second half. But it’s night and day comparing him now and then.

Given this conversation you could make the argument that Nas got the Jordan official 6(illmatic, IWW, Stillmatic, Lost Tapes, Life is Good, KD2(pending but it's looking really, really good))

he has a bar about this i forget exactly but talking about one of the best things he ever did was create distance for himself from people.

someone will up the quote i have faith.

when Nasir dropped, the album was not well received Large Pro and Pete were both in attendance at the QB listening. And they were MAD that they were not on the Kanye produced album like it's a Kanye produced album. Pete had the 2 joints from Lost tapes 2 still in the tuck but it's still bizarre that he expected them to be coming out right away to the point of being on that album. Then when the joints drop the public doesn't really care about them. I liked them. However since then I haven't see Large Pro and Nas together. Probably same with Pete. Nas loves large pro but he don't wanna be under his tutelage forever or dealing with his displeasure with the way he directs his career. sometimes you gotta shake up your circle to keep moving forward.

Nas has grown to trust hit boy and let him be an equal collaborator in a way he hasn't done since Salaam Remi was his main guy. He don't really vibe with these emotional in public nikkaz as he gets older. I doubt Pete get another look.

Now imagine if Salaam had managed to convince Nas to keep the original vision of Steets disciple with Serious, thiefs theme type cuts only. What we are getting now has been long in the making Hit just gave Nas the confidence but he was moving in this direction for the longest.

Salaam don't get his props

Breh, where are you getting this info from? Is this direct information that you witnessed yourself? Cuz this is the first time I'm hearing about this. This sounds like something that somebody inferred from somewhere and ran with like it was tangible facts.

Pete Rock is an outlier, he's been throwing shots at everybody from Swizz Beats, to DJ Clue, to 9th Wonder, to numerous mumble rappers by name over the years. That's just Pete being Pete. :manny:

But when has Large Professor or any other producer been "mad" at Nas for not getting production credits? :what: (Not counting 9th Wonder's Nas obsession). Large Pro ain't never been on no crab shyt, even when cats have dissed HIM, he's still level headed and works with them.

I get cats are excited about KD2 cuz it's a dope album, but what's up with so much shade being tossed at Illmatic producers and 90s era music in this thread whenever juxtaposed with today's sound? Is this some kind of preemptive strike against the "Nas has wack beats" narrative or something?

It's always about the "sound" when it comes to these old dusty hip hop head dudes who got something to say about Hitboy and Nas working together. It's never "this shyt is trash"...because I think they know they'd sound stupid saying that...it's always an issue with Hitboy in particular and the sound of the music.

They want Nas to rhyme over "Locomotive"/"Come Get Me"/"Represent"/"Nas is Like" style beats exclusively. They think Nas is still some underground dude, they view him more as that than a big dog superstar type, if the production is big and grand on a Nas album it aint right...only Jay-z and 2pac and Biggie and literally every other great can have that kind of production, not Nas.

KD got a lot more criticism than KD 2 from these type people, it's no surprise. KD 2 is a borderline masterpiece of an album, don't let any tweets from some "real hip hop" ashy knuckle dudes deter you and make you question your own ears. Nas like 48, he's too tenured and big to still be kept in that "boom bap only" box.

Kd2 is better than LIG…it might take y’all a minute to admit it but it’s facts. I was initially in denial as well

:hubie:
The better debate is if KD2 is better than stillmatic. Spoiler…it’s not
I think it's better than LIG too, which is a great Nas album to me. I got Stillmatic as Nas 2nd best album...idk if I'd put KD 2 there yet, if it's still hitting the way it is now in like a week then I wouldn't have a problem putting it in his Top 3 though, :ohhh:
