The thing with Pete isn’t that he can’t have an opinion, it’s that he been basically saying the same shyt about every Nas album since IWW. Saying how Nas needs to get the illmatic producers back (which basically means himself since Nas has been cool with and worked with all the other illmatic producers). Pete’s comments aren’t new, it’s expected at this point.

It would be Nas’s biggest mistake in my opinion and i think he knows that

I won’t lie. For nas last album I wouldn’t mind the title illermatic and lock in with his illmatic producers plus Dre and hitboy all involved and let kanye redeem himself for one song.. but they all gotta lock in together…

The problem with Pete Rock and nikkaz in general is they wanna give each other props
he should be saying he wanna work with hit boy and show him some things, and he can learn from hit boy to see he can upgrade his sound, but nikkaz don't see it that way

Pete Rock is right in some regards of hit boys beats but not this time, that life is like a dice game beat would be a beat to make that comment on but that's because he trying to modernize a 90s beat and it will take a cold muthaufcka to be able to do that with the same feeling.

But these beats are unique and different, and its the sound of the album itself, it's a complete album, a design sound sonically and lyrically, and it's good, and nothing like the 1st won which is a completely different type of album yet similar to this one which is why its sequel, same complexion of sounds used, and overall vibe just more soulful hip hop incorporated as the overall theme
Also, producers in general tend to big each other up more than rappers do. I'm not saying they get less jealous than rappers, because humans beings are are human beings. But there's a competitive nature to being an emcee that's not necessarily to the same degree among producers. So many producers that this message board debates over all talk way more than people realize, share samples, share tricks of the trade, etc. Being a dope producer is like being in a little fraternity, and there's just some level of nerdiness when you're a dope producer that only other dope producers can relate to.

It's not very typical to see producers talking shyt to other producers in public spaces like Twitter.

he has a bar about this i forget exactly but talking about one of the best things he ever did was create distance for himself from people.

someone will up the quote i have faith.

when Nasir dropped, the album was not well received Large Pro and Pete were both in attendance at the QB listening. And they were MAD that they were not on the Kanye produced album like it's a Kanye produced album. Pete had the 2 joints from Lost tapes 2 still in the tuck but it's still bizarre that he expected them to be coming out right away to the point of being on that album. Then when the joints drop the public doesn't really care about them. I liked them. However since then I haven't see Large Pro and Nas together. Probably same with Pete. Nas loves large pro but he don't wanna be under his tutelage forever or dealing with his displeasure with the way he directs his career. sometimes you gotta shake up your circle to keep moving forward.

Nas has grown to trust hit boy and let him be an equal collaborator in a way he hasn't done since Salaam Remi was his main guy. He don't really vibe with these emotional in public nikkaz as he gets older. I doubt Pete get another look.

Now imagine if Salaam had managed to convince Nas to keep the original vision of Steets disciple with Serious, thiefs theme type cuts only. What we are getting now has been long in the making Hit just gave Nas the confidence but he was moving in this direction for the longest.

Salaam don't get his props
Salaam definitely doesn't get his props.

Pete definitely won't be back on another Nas project anytime soon.

Alc also went from 2005 or so to 2019 with no Nas placements, and they worked a lot together from 2001-2005. He was always cool though, and never said much more than Nas knew how to reach him if he wanted to. And they did a few joints a few years ago. One of them was It Never Ends, and I don't know where the other few are going, if anywhere. But my point is that Pete or Large Pro could've played it cool like that. You never get back in a vibe with any artist by shytting on them on Twitter. Pete is so stupid for that.

I didn't know that about Large Pro by the way. Good info.

That's actually a really good tier list. It'd be very similar if not identical to mine.
