The problem with Pete Rock and nikkaz in general is they wanna give each other props
he should be saying he wanna work with hit boy and show him some things, and he can learn from hit boy to see he can upgrade his sound, but nikkaz don't see it that way

Pete Rock is right in some regards of hit boys beats but not this time, that life is like a dice game beat would be a beat to make that comment on but that's because he trying to modernize a 90s beat and it will take a cold muthaufcka to be able to do that with the same feeling.

But these beats are unique and different, and its the sound of the album itself, it's a complete album, a design sound sonically and lyrically, and it's good, and nothing like the 1st won which is a completely different type of album yet similar to this one which is why its sequel, same complexion of sounds used, and overall vibe just more soulful hip hop incorporated as the overall theme

fukked up part is Pete had a more recent Nas placement than Premo and u don’t see Premo on that bullshyt. Now nikkas understand Nas keeps certain nikkas separate for a reason. As for Pete. He vibe wit Hit Boy more than he do wit u nikka. Get over it! U can’t even make amends with fukking CL Smooth. Talkin shyt.
he has a bar about this i forget exactly but talking about one of the best things he ever did was create distance for himself from people.

someone will up the quote i have faith.

when Nasir dropped, the album was not well received Large Pro and Pete were both in attendance at the QB listening. And they were MAD that they were not on the Kanye produced album like it's a Kanye produced album. Pete had the 2 joints from Lost tapes 2 still in the tuck but it's still bizarre that he expected them to be coming out right away to the point of being on that album. Then when the joints drop the public doesn't really care about them. I liked them. However since then I haven't see Large Pro and Nas together. Probably same with Pete. Nas loves large pro but he don't wanna be under his tutelage forever or dealing with his displeasure with the way he directs his career. sometimes you gotta shake up your circle to keep moving forward.

Nas has grown to trust hit boy and let him be an equal collaborator in a way he hasn't done since Salaam Remi was his main guy. He don't really vibe with these emotional in public nikkaz as he gets older. I doubt Pete get another look.

Now imagine if Salaam had managed to convince Nas to keep the original vision of Steets disciple with Serious, thiefs theme type cuts only. What we are getting now has been long in the making Hit just gave Nas the confidence but he was moving in this direction for the longest.

Salaam don't get his props

We gotta stop trying rationalizing bullshyt like this. It has nothing to do with all that. Dude is acting a girl because he knows they'll be a hundred goofy nikkas in his comments dikk riding.

Nas definitely does more physicals. Kings Disease did 47K first week of which 18k was physical album sales (close to half)

With EPMD AND Nobody being wild cards and the excellent word of mouth I think an optimistic trajectory would be 60-65 and a more realistic prediction would be 50-55k

This is a good analysis. I always look at it from diminishing returns perspectives. Normally artists get to a point where their album does 20-30% worse than the previous one. So you go from 77k (Nasir) to 47k (KD1), which I was 100% right about last time. This time I think he will beat that because of the Grammy, Em, Lauryn...and it being a fukking amazing album with something for everyone. I do wonder about the promo. It was kinda announced out of nowhere, no video/song until the day of, and Kanye dominated twitter that night. But with Kanye dropping the ball (again) I think a looooooot of people ended up saying "oh btw, this Nas shyt is dope" and it really took off.

You can tell certain media types were waiting in the wings to crown Kanye that night, expecting the album would come out. And when it didn't all of a sudden they started talking about Lauryn Hill's verse, Eminem's verse, Nas over those beats, etc. We all see it...media not trying to give Nas any credit unless they're forced to...which is what these last two albums did IMO.

That's exactly what I said, he don't wanna help the new producers who trying to bring back real hip hop learn the old secrets, and that's why hip hop ain't been back yet it's disconnect between the young generation and the old of the people who like real hip hop music

Old muthafukkas assume some young nikka don't know shyt about rap or real hip hop, and only like trap and drill, and that's not the case, they try to emulate the sound the best they can, but they don't know how, if old producers worked with the young producers who would have an updated hip hop sound a blue print for other artist to follow so quality music can come back

Why does YKTV have to be here? This would be a straight up perfect album without that track. Its Braveheart party and Summer on smash all over again :francis:

Pete Rock sadly has morphed into a bozo.

:francis:

Petey Petey Petey….:snoop:

THIS is what got you ostracized from Nas in the first place 25 years ago when you came out your mouth talking flagrant about It Was Written..

Why don’t you just listen to your former partner CL Smooth? The one who told you the best course of action is to shut the fukk up and make beats?

Why can’t you simply be happy that an MC 30 years in the game is still relevant and making CLASSIC music? Even if its without you?

You see THIS is what I mean when I say that Nas should simply follow his own heart and intuition and stay as far away from these trapped in the 90’s ass producers as possible.

Q-Tip told Steve Stoute he was ruining Nas career making IWW. He was WRONG

Pete Rock bytched about not being on IWW and dissed the album publicly. The album sold 3 Million copies and made Nas a superstar. But somehow Pete Rock knows how to make a Nas album when he’s only gotten THREE placements in 30 years? Does that make ANY sense?

These people feel like somehow their the gatekeepers to Nas legacy when Nas has proven over and over that HE is the talent. He never needed the Illmatic production team to stay hot. The only thing he ever needed was producers who shared in his vision. And over THIRTY YEARS he’s executed that vision with The Trackmasters, Salaam Remi, Timbaland, Alchemist, Buckwild, Will I Am, Scott Storch, Kanye West, Dr Dre, RZA, The Neptunes, No ID, and now Hit Boy.

Petey.. If you knew oh so well the best way to craft a Nas album then guess what? You would have MADE a Nas album by now. You haven’t. And you NEVER will. Because despite what your ego tells you this isn’t 1994. Your shyt is nice but it ain’t moving the needle. Liquor and weed must’ve massacred your mind or thee celebrity or you couldn’t change with time.
