It's sad that these people actually exist. I get that everybody is into different things, but Nas gets some bizarre treatment sometimes. Imagine thinking a beloved and critically acclaimed rapper 30 years into his career has only made one or two really good albums......back in the mid-1990s. But they're obsessed with Illmatic. People get disappointed every time because they want Illmatic again and get pissed when they don't get it.

Then there are idiots who say things like this:

"Nas has mostly sucked for such a long time now. He has, what, about 4 decent songs since Made U Look?

I know as a culture we’re quick to label something as bad or good and then never change our minds, but Nas needs to be recognized as a moment in time and nothing more."

And this:

"Sadly...I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Illmatic was an accident, a glorious one at that! The one album that was driven by the right forces excluding the rapper himself?! Maybe, the time was right then when those producers got together and made magic while the rapper had little to no influence on the product. Fast forward to today and a dozen albums later, maybe the reason we never got a God-tier album was because had his hands in it? Just a theory."

And this:

"I think the biggest issue here (outside of guest features) is Nas' content, but then again he's never been known for that."

I feel like screaming on these people when I read this shyt, but there's no benefit. :unimpressed:
Illmatic is some hypebeast shyt at this point. It’s cool to say and list as your favorite Nas album. Half these crackas just got put on to Illmatic not even that long ago. They have no idea about the artist who created it’s discography. At this point. It’s like Illmatic is its own thing and not even a Nas album. They way the artist who created it gets disrespected is retarded.

I peep how some of y'all are PURPOSEFULLY mischaractizing and conflating VALID critiques of King's Disease with past unfair and unreasonable Nas critiques.

Y'all looks sad, desperate and silly doing that!

They just rehashing shyt Vlad says. And Vlad knows what he’s doing because people have literally came up there and told him Nas was all hands on deck for Illmatic. Salaam Remi basically deaded his whole shyt but that don’t stop him.

The valid critiques u have are valid to u. U gotta understand ur opinion isn’t worth more than ur opinion bro. And take it from there. Like I said before. I don’t have a problem with people not Feelin this shyt. Nor sharing their opinions. But the problem is when people start trying to spread their opinions as facts. There was no problem with Nas on this project. He achieved what he set out to do. U may not like what he set out to do. But it’s still his goal. And he achieved it.

Goes back to the beginning. Gotta remember that there was a ton of noise from "real heads" that IWW was wack and a sellout album when it dropped. IWW was a monster. It stayed at #1 four weeks in a row and dominated summer '96. That made those dudes mad. Pac and BIG getting shot sort of overshadow how huge IWW was and the related backlash in the Hip Hop History books now.

There was always that portion of the fanbase that wanted him to spend his career trying to recreate Illmatic. These negative narratives started there and never went away.

You nailed it right there. These people love Illmatic and claim it as this amazing album, but they have no respect for the person who made it, or his creativity, or his songwriting abilities. And because Nas has spent a long time not working with any of these producers (except for L.E.S., who constantly gets ignored for some reason), they think the reason Illmatic was so good is because of the beats, and Nas got lucky with his pen game or some stupid shyt like that.

I don't know how you can be that obsessed with Illmatic and not feel anything else Nas has done. Like in "Every Ghetto" when he's talking about how his own body parts hate each other. How does that not connect with you at all?

I would rather these people just admit that Nas isn't for them instead of come up with all these excuses as to why they don't like anything past Illmatic.

But I thought Nas' ear was made of tin and he couldn't pick a good beat if you paid him. :ohhh:

You know, if Premier added some tricks to that beat, Guru could have rapped over it on Hard to Earn.

:wow:

this just keeps getting better and better with each listen.

hit is one versatile producer. hard drums, soul samples, trap shyt, drumless joints, smooth fly shyt, bangers. and it doesn't come across as a compilation...it's still cohesive.

and i say producer in the truest sense. you can tell this was a collaborative effort with him and esco

well fukkin done. :salute:

Exactly, he just looking for an argument. When I read his post I saw what his motive was from the start. That’s why I said ignore his post. I saw his agenda a mile away. When you ignore these types of comments they usually keep responding and reveal their true colors. It’s nothing wrong with not liking this album but some critic opinions is on another level.
