We are not having a honest convo about this Nas album imo.
Nas is slightly off on his rhyming on some of this album. Like, he his not rapping in time with the beats and not in the same vein of the Late Great Prodigy's on beat/off beat rhyme cadence.
Also the production on some of these songs have a fruity flavor to them.
Also I still contend that Nas lyrics are the star of the show and the production should cater to Nas not the other way around. Bring back the Salam Remi the L.E.S and the other producers and production of old so Nas can get off in the way we are all familiar with, exceedingly skillful, poignant, conscious raising, fly, funky, uncanny, ultimately indescribable and unfathomable.
Also their is a push online from listeners to elevate this album higher than it is in Nas discography, and it's place among projects of the year.
People in this thread are calling this a 5 mic classic and at the top of Nas catalogue, both are CLEARLY FALSE.
I am a life long Nas fan and I'd rather look toward his next project because this was a concession and a compromise to the fake "Nas got no beats" crowd.
The younger generation's addiction /preference/conditioning, and predilection for non-Boom Bap and Trap influenced beats has steered this project and modern Hip Hop in general, for clearly less than stellar, less than optimal, and at times disastrous results.
We have seen a a widely acknowledged modern decline in lyrics, due to the difficulty and near general impossibility of being lyrical on non-boom bap/ non-boom bap influenced production.
There is a insincerity online and in this thread about this King's Disease L.P. that is evidenced with the lack of classic acclaim and incongruity with reputable music criticism outlets, and long time Hip Hop personalities in the culture, from Charlemagne, to music critics in magazine publications, to the more prominent YouTube critics having given
King's Disease a total average medium rating, and non- classic ratings.
There is a misguided and (somewhat understandable) desire for the younger gen. to have a Classic Nas album released in their era, but the fact is that has yet to be the case.
They have tried on this site to elevate Nasir Lp and even Lost Tapes 2, to a higher status than it deserves so that they can have a Nas classic as their own.
They need to just accept that most of the undeniable and unanimous Nas classics were released when they were young toddlers and children too young to fully consume Nas albums of the late 90s and early 2000s.
Nas excelled when he writes/ works for longer periods of time on projects like 'Life is Good' with mulitiple producers, executives Producers, A&Rs, hometown QB friends and family (Jungle), and musicians to help cultivate/inspire a creative vibe for Nas to thrive in. He usually, rather than only spending a shorter period a week or so like the Nasir LP and Kings Disease spends longer amounts of time composing and working on songs to give us classics like Illmstic It Was written and songs of Lost Tapes like "Drunk By My Self".
