Why would you be surprised of Nas stans in a Nas thread stanning? That makes no sense at all. Any fan of any artist is going to anticipate the music regardless of the features and who is behind the boards. Maybe I'm off base, but it makes less sense to me when people go in a Nas thread and dismiss something haven't even heard yet, but suggest he get other producers just because. Then at the same time bash the fan base for coming at them for the suggestion. Simply put, if you're there for a Nas album, does it really matter who is producing the music? It doesn't mean anyone is automatically supposed to like it, but to completely dismiss it when not one note was even heard is crazy.
People are so fukking weird when it comes to Nas. If the Hit-Boy albums all sounded the same, I would understand the complaints, but we've gotten five albums that go in completely different directions. KD1, KD2, and Magic might as well have been made by different producers. Before this album came out, people were already complaining that Nas was working with Hit-Boy again. At this point, nobody should be surprised that these two are still making music together. They're bringing out the best in each other and this run has singlehandedly changed a lot of narratives when it comes to Nas. Even some of his biggest critics (Max from Hip Hop Isn't Dead) are noticing a change and softening up on him. Why would Nas abandon all that for someone that he doesn't have that kind of chemistry with right now?
Salaam Remi used to be Nas' right-hand man when it came to production. Where's he been since Life is Good? L.E.S. hasn't been heard from in a while. No I.D. is still around. What about Mike Will Made It? Is he going to give Nas some heat like it was rumored? And I might hurt some feelings here, but Swizz Beatz seems to have good chemistry with Nas. An album between them might be surprisingly good.
The point is, people should never assume anything when it comes to Nas' music. He's never going to do what's expected of him. That stopped being the case when he couldn't hook up with Marley Marl for It Was Written and hired Steve Stoute as his manager. People are going to hype themselves up for an Alchemist album and be upset that they're not getting it when there was never any indication of it happening. "Premier album still might happen" was a tease, not a confirmation. The only thing that's for sure is that Nas is going to continue working with Hit-Boy. They're basically another EPMD or Gang Starr at this point. You can either accept what is and come into each album with an open mind, or go without and listen to something else. Alchemist will always be there with a new album for you to enjoy.
