Naruto, Hunter, Hero, etc, all came a decade plus after DBZ. Stole its swag, mimicked its characters, copied its attacks (none even close to as good as Kamehameha) and tried to become more "serious" and deep.

Lets look at some of the impact dbz has had on these other shonen

Prolonged fights, a large cast, deaths of main characters (mentioned because this was not a feature of American cartoons before DBZ), enemies becoming friends, heroes with unique powers who nevertheless are underdogs and have to work incredibly hard to master their abilities, a mix of humor and suspense, and changing art styles to emphasize character development, I could go on and on.. All DBZ.

What makes DBZ so damn good is it was never trynna be more than what it is. Its a comedy/action adventure story about the most powerful fighters in the universe. Thats it thats all.

From that, we got the most badass anime in existence that inspired countless clones for decades to come.

Naruto being a crazy big fox directly inspired by goku being a crazy big monkey

OG Super Saiyan transformation is the most iconic character trait/power up in all of anime.

Naruto may have better use of its side characters, but anyone who puts it above DBZ is foolin'.

Its like saying Drake >>> Jay Z cuz he dabbled in more genres. FOH.

Like I said, none of them exist without DBZ. It's the OG. Naruto did it better tho, and Hero is already doing it better than Naruto and DBZ ever did. That gif is not just gorgeous animation, it's a big character moment from a great fight.

Hunter x Hunter is a subversion of the entire genre, so watch what you're saying with that jawn

What you're doing is like saying Paid In Full is the GOAT rap album, maybe it's the most important and no doubt great but others learned from that and improved upon it

If you're in it just for the spectacle of the large scale fights, I gotchu. But in terms of story, animation, characters, etc. other shows since have definitely surpassed DBZ

To illustrate how much better Naruto/Boruto is than DBZ(post cell saga)/Super, look at how the battle with Momoshiki went down.

No giant out of nowhere power ups, no rage blasts or transformations, it'd just Naruto and Sasuke using the the abilities they learned during their lives.


Since Cell DBZ/Super has been nothing but bullshyt transformation after bullshyt transformation and or fusions.



Dragon Ball super is for people that like the fast and the furious movies. In fact I would say the storyline in fast and furious is deeper than what Toriyama has done in 20 years.

Some people are blinded by nostalgy I think, I agree that DBZ inspired a lot of mangas/anime but it doesn't mean it's the best in its category. You may be the pioneer in something but since time has passed, many people have improved upon this category.
Now Naruto does have a lot of problems in the second part .

The show is ridiculous. Naruto itself ended pretty poorly and left power scaling in shambles. The other Kages are now weaklings compared to Naruto and Sasuke thus making the position of Kage about as irrelevant as the typical Jonin and every other villain is about as irrelevant. The only character that MIGHT pose a threat to those two is Kawaki and that's only because we haven't seen what BS hack ability he has.

Did you see the end of the 2nd most recent episode? Also in the manga, Kawaki and Boruto are similar. Shinki's iron sand is better than Kawaki imo. The only advantage Kawaki and Boruto have over him is that they could both absorb jutsu with the cursed seals. They will both be more powerful than Naruto and Sasuke and be Gods destined for a bigger path.
