It's impossible to really look towards the future till Melo's totally off the books.

And now, Noah, too.

KP is the future of ya'll franchise. why would u bring him off the bench. if your team is gonna suck, he should play lots of minutes so he can continue to improve. also, I could see drose having a fit if he got benched BTW. dude still thinks he's an MVP candidate in his mind.

Well, there are plenty of examples of great players that came off the bench and played starters minutes, because it gave them a shot to start games against second units, and get a rhythm when the team needed a scorer.

I agree that KP is the future, and I wouldn't necessarily want him coming off the bench, but I see the value of him or rose doing just that.

OR, KP is the first sub out for somebody like Holiday... and then you bring him back in early with the second unit.

When I was coaching AAU, rotations were always tough to figure out, because everyone thinks the best five players start -- but that's not necessarily the case.

THIS MAY BE THE WORST DEFENSIVE TEAM IVE EVER SEEN.

THEY GIVE UP SO MANY EASY BUCKETS
ON SIMPLE ASS PLAYS.

THIS MAY BE THE WORST BENCH IN THE NBA ALSO.

THEY SHOULD HAVE TOOK THAT NOAH MONEY
AND GOT SOME DEPTH.

I NEVER LIKED THAT SIGNING
BECAUSE I SAW HIM WASHED
THE LAST 2 YEARS.

They have a BUNCH of players in the starting lineup that have either: never defended with any kind of consistent effort/understanding OR don't have the movement skills to do it anymore.

The Noah signing is going to hurt for a while.

He's useless, you were right, I was just holding onto hope. His best asset is his passing, but he also counter acts that by threading the needle too hard and forces TOs. And the more playmaking you want from him, the less Rose has the ball

He has a little bit of the KOQ thing, where sometimes he holds on to it trying too hard to make the perfect pass. But really what kills me is that he's simply not a threat to score at all. And because his man just hangs by the basket, he can't even get a few easy ones by cutting at the right times a la even somebody like Capella.

SIDENOTE:

I always find myself kinda chuckling when I move through this thread, because you can tell who doesn't really understand basketball by defining "coming off the bench" as "being benched" -- this is why you muhfukkas weren't shyt on your middle school team, and had to retire to 2k :francis:

And now, Noah, too.

What sucks about this is....we could have had Lopez as a legit asset/trade piece this year. I've always been a huge Noah fan and he's the guy this franchise has needed...just not now. Phil I tend to think doesnt know what he's doing but the total pivot this offseason seemed to come from other people inside the organization(as usual).

THEIR DEFENSIVE WOES CAN BE FIXED WITH SIMPLE ADJUSTMENTS...

PORZINGIS LOVES TO WANDER AWAY FROM SHOOTERS
WHICH CAUSES A COMPLETE BREAK DOWN
WHEN THE BALL IS KICKED TO HIS MAN.

THIS TEAM JUST DOESNT ROTATE ON DEFENSE...
WHICH MEANS YOULL NEVER SEE A DOUBLE ROTATION.

EVERY TIME NOAH STEPPED UP TO HELP ON HARDEN,
NO ONE ROTATED TO NOAHS MAN
WHICH RESULTED IN SIMPLE LOB PASSES.

BRINGING IN A DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR
CAN FIX THIS shyt EASILY.

THIS DUDES HAVE BEEN GETTING BEAT ON HIGH SCHOOL CUTS SINCE GAME 1.

ITS HARD TO GET EASY BUCKETS WHEN YOURE NOT CAUSING MISSES
ON THE OTHER END.

JUST BECOMING AVERAGE ON D
WILL MAKE THEM ONE OF THE BETTER TEAMS IN THE EAST.

Its tough for me to call it. Its still early..... And we got our pick this year.... I don't want to really be to critical of them yet. 82 games in a season after all. It's also clear defense is the issue, but they got the players necessary to at least be a decent defense. Hopefully Hornecek gets them to commit to defense watching the game tapes.

With that said.......

Honestly as long as they don't trade any Gawd Damn Picks. They could suck this year and Phil would still be the best GM in recent memory

Hornacek said Knicks have to get KP the ball more

New York Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek said his team is missing opportunities to get the ball to Kristaps Porzingis.

"They've got to do a better job of getting him the ball when he's got a mismatch," Hornacek said after the Knicks fell to 1-3 following a 19-point loss to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday. "There were several times where he's in the area on a smaller guy and we're not necessarily looking for him. We're looking for the next thing. We've got to find that mismatch, throw it up there, let him gather the ball and make a play on that."

"They were switching; a lot of times he had a 6-5, 6-6 guy on him. We have to take advantage of that and just didn't see it," Hornacek said.

Let's see what type of adjustments are made for the next game...

Porzingis shouldn't even be out on the perimeter guarding shooters. Dude is fast for a 7'3" player but he's still 7'3". I'm sick of seeing him get killed on the perimeter by stretch 4s. :scust:Kid is a natural born rim proterctor and he shoulda been our starting Center this year. Phil Jackson should be publicly stoned for that Joakim Noah contract. :pacspit:

Yeah, it was a weird set of moves. And honestly, if they just did Lee/Rose -- I would have been pretty happy. But Noah's deal is unmitigated disaster for this team.

The problem here is, defense is NOT easy to fix. If it were easy to go from trash to average on defense, teams would do it.

You have to have guys that are fully engaged, and understanding rotations, so they do it naturally. Then you need players who can also play defense.

Rose is a shytty defender at the point.
Melo is an - at best - uncommitted defender.
Porzingis is an untrained defender.
Noah can't change directions anymore AND has zero explosion to challenge shots.

So you have four people who either don't understand/practice rotations and/or can't do them physically.

Even if they had ONLY drilled defense from the beginning of camp to now with a defensive specialist, they'd still be ass. This team is not built to defend, as a whole. And in order to even be passable, they need to make a large amount of significant changes.
