Not to mention the fact that even if Melo leaves Phil hasn't made it clear we're rebuilding.
Right.

It assumed things that aren't facts.

As you mentioned, we aren't sure what the direction Phil is taking. Everyone, if not the majority of the fans, want a clear direction and are welcoming of a full transition considering how management failed during the Melo era.

Give us peace of mind and an idea of where this ship is going by explicitly articulating it. Running the Knicks isn't a Lupe Fiasco album - in a presser, we shouldn't be trying to read between the lines of GM actions to decipher what exactly it is we are doing.

*Porzingis gets drafted - Oh, read between the lines, we are in the process of a rebuild! This KP kid is a project that will only first start showing dividends years from now.

*D. Rose & Noah signing - Oh, read between the lines, we are showing KP can compete NOW and he is attempting to balance building around KP w/ young guys like Willy and also giving Melo a shot.

Phil needs to hunker down on what "culture" he is trying to instill. Saying "triangle" isn't culture.

He said we're rebuilding in his press conference
:gucci:

It's literally the reason he gave for why Melo should leave
Then why does he want a vet in return? Why didn't he get the bench to play majority minutes in the last games instead of allowing hornacek to let rose, Melo and Lee put in so many minutes?

He hasn't gone fully in.

Phil still wants to blame NOT rebuilding on melo. But rebuilding and re-tooling the roster is his job. He could have started last summer. He should have bought and extra pick. He should NOT have signed Noah.

He probably should have kept Lopez, but if you want to go the salary-dump route, that's fine.

My biggest problem with the article is that it wants me to believe that Phil is taking responsibility, and he point-blank is not.

Exactly. I feel like Phil is turning into trump running for president, people viewing him as a blank slate or for his past coaching succes and ignoring his present . They just projecting what they want such as a complete rebuild ( which he isn't saying )

Exactly. I don't feel like Phil has a plan B for what happens if he isn't approached by a team that melo finds attractive. Like let's say the kings are hot and heavy for melo and he's like nah I'm good. In the end Of the day he doesn't have to waive the clause ( especially if Phil's logic is he should go to a contender)and even then idk if I want Phil taking some horrible trade Just to get rid of melo for pennies on the dollar. Unless he's saying melo is a team cancer which isn't directly saying and no one else is saying

Saw it mentioned on Realgm; So let's say the Bulls knock out the C's...prolly enough for Butler to end up sticking in CHI instead of being dealt right? Then if the C's can't get Hayward, who is on a team with upside and can pay him more...the C's would be left with a need for a real scorer to put with IT right? Does Melo become a real trade option? I wonder if they'd actually offer something valuable.

Yeah. I mean, really, moving melo helps the rebuilding process on a few fronts: Helps next year's pick, acquires various levels of assets, eliminates distractions from the rebuilding process.

Really, I just want to limit Phil's potential spaces for error.
