I still don't fully understand how the lottery works. As long as we stay in the 7th or 8th spot we'll be in decent shape, it's that 9th and 10th spot that scare me.
So if we had won the coin toss, what picks could we have possibly gotten?
Aight this is how it works. Every team that is "in the lottery" IE: Every team that did NOT make the playoffs - gets a set amount of ping-pong balls. Worst gets the most, best gets the least.
(here are their odds to win the 1st pick, accordingly)
1. Boston (via Brooklyn), (25%)
2. Phoenix (19.9%)
3. L.A. Lakers (15.6%)
4. Philadelphia (11.9%)
5. Orlando (8.8%)
6. Minnesota (5.3%)
7. New York (5.3%)
8. Sacramento (2.8%)
9. Dallas (1.7%)
10. Sacramento (via New Orleans, top-three protected), (1.1%)
11. Charlotte (0.8%)
12. Detroit (0.7%)
13. Denver (0.6%)
14. Miami (0.5%)
The
top 3 picks are up for grabs in the lottery. They are basically raffled off. Then the rest of the spots are doled out based on your record from worst to best.
So if Boston wins the lotto, Suns win the second pick, and the Lakers win the third - then cool... the order holds as it is listed above.
But, let's say (for the sake of this thread's prayers) that the Knicks win the second pick, Boston got the first, and Philly got the third, the order would look like this:
Boston
Knicks
Philly
Phoenix
Lakers
Orlando
Minny
Sacramento
Charlotte
Detroit
Denver
Miami
You only lost draft position if a team behind you (with a better record) jumps up and wins the lottery. If a team ahead of you moves up, it doesn't change your place. So the MAX you can drop, is three spots, if three teams behind you jump up.
Knicks have an 15.3% chance at moving into the top 3. (check my math, tho!)
But also, because they are the knicks: a 0% chance.
Breh tankings overrated it's about providing a winning culture
Think of how much more confidence our young players will have next year coming off a 31 win season instead of 25
Yeah, those were big wins, really needed them to teach these young players to be champions.
