Theres a lot of people who are from the hood who keep to themselves. If you have a job you might know some people and chill occasionally, but odds are you won't be "chilling on the block" regularly.
And the locals + newbies mix it up A LOT at spots like Franklin Park and Soda. Newbies patronize the local businesses that appeal to them- like the organic food spot on Nostrand and ~Dean, etc... and are sometimes met with rancor/distrust/animosity like at 95 South. So this image of these newbies coming in with blinders and bulldozing the old neighborhood's culture is just not true and only serves to fortify the rift between the people who were there and the people coming in.

I'm from Oklahoma and Black Wall Street is under gentrification as we speak. Black Oklahoma, as a whole, hasn't recovered from the 1921 Tulsa Race Riots. The wealth in Oklahoma is very concentrated right now with the Energy/Natural Resources white people holding all of the state's wealth and power. If the X/Y gen don't get it together now, Oklahoma and Tulsa will look like a country NYC.
