Well said, breh. The condescension by some folks in this thread is unbearable. God forbid someone want to be able to afford to live in this city solo. Some of the “Y’all nikkas should have bought/own” crowd isn’t annoying as fukk and makes it seem like average joe regardless of race is able to Just buy like that.

No one is saying roommates weren’t common back then, we’re saying that now it’s practically a necessity where as before it was a temporary practice until one was able to move on. It’s far more common and necessary now

Exactly, can you imagine if folks had the same mentality towards buying a house. :picard: that shyt does need to stop.

What keeps us in.NYC?

The high ceiling in terms of salary, diversity in culture and class, competitive markets for food/restaurants keeps prices relatively low and so nightlife/social life can be inexpensive, unnecessary to be dependent on a car, and depending on where you can live a good deal of amenities.

If a person is single and a young professional making good income and doesn't have high expenses outside of rent/mortgage, then NYC is still a great place to be. It's just dependent on what type of lifestyle you want/envision. More and more young professionals are ok envisioning their 40's and 50's sans children and/or marriage and so NYC is perfect for that type of person.

But if you want to do the house and kids thing in NYC, then unless you and your spouse already make bread or have a high probability of making a lot of bread then I don't see the point in staying in the tri-state area.

I posted the trailer a while back, but this film shows the disparity between kids in the hood and wealthy in terms of education they have access to.

New York is a working class city. That's how it was and still is structured. When you move up the ladder or are already high up on the chain, you basically move out or to the better part of town. There needs to be an affordable area for the working class. They are the backbone of the city. The fact that you have well off people moving into the working class neighborhoods and turning them upscale is really bad for the city. What happens when such neighborhood no longer is viewed as hip, those hipsters get tired and decide to move out by the masses? Ghost towns. New York will be a fukking ghost or a slum again.

There things I wish were true and then there is the reality and probabilities that come with that reality. I wish there was an ample amount of properties that were affordable, but the reality is that there is not and there will likely not be a lot in the future.

Again there is this notion that this will all come back to bite the wealthy in the ass, if that happens then cool. But cosmic justice doesn't always occur and so the ghost towns may not happen and the city can/and will probably continue to chug along as the working class disappears.

yall both right in part
working class makes cities and nations run
but its not cosmic justice, its simple economics that will bite the wealthy in the ass.
for example, if NYC gets completely gentrified where will the city workers, plumbers, nurses, garbage men, UBER drivers etc. live? eventually those folks will have to live so far away that commuting to NYC isn't feasible

Wrong, this where the real politics will be played, I guarantee you there are going to be super sizes buildings going to come up that are probably already in the planning stages that the mayor is going to reward to his construction connections. You going to see another Starret City being built in at least 3 of the 5 boroughs. Places that will be paid for by the city and made for working class people to put in one area like herding. You will see how the transit department is going to be in it also.

IMO, that's no guarantee people won't leave for the suburbs or other states even in that case. NYC doesn't seem serious about fixing the affordability and transit issues of the region.

DESCRIPTION
Gentrification and displacement have become a big fear to our communities at large. Bad credit and miseducation have been the culprit to many of the citizens who are hard working and d not own anything. The time is now and we must understand the system to start and build Generational wealth. Buy a Block conference will be the first to address that issue. We can no longer live check to check and a sickness short of being in ruin. Creation of wealth starts as a community and being able to sustain dollars within that community to help each other Economically,Physically and Spirtually. There will be Real Estate Experts, Banking Experts, Credit Repair Experts and Financial Advisors as speakers. We must all work together to "Buy A Hood"
