Why is sharing an apartment a problem? Saving money is only a problem on the coli. Asian and Spanish do it to save money for thier kids and family and if anyone else does it so what? Pocket watching isn’t a good look. If blacks did it we could save money build with each other and afford to stay in that area and when they meet a wife or whatever they have Money saved to buy or move to a decent area.

history fact - the reason a LOT of landlords wouldnt ALLOW you to have a roommate is because they wanted to be sure you BY YOURSELF could afford the rent because people are sketchy - they want to be sure they got their money.

having one young fukkup in an apt is bad enough but allowing 2 others or 3 no fukking way - but now there are no independant owners there are corps owning these apts and they can give a fukk they just want to be able to jack up the rent - and jacking up the rent means high turn over and who is more high turnover than your still living in your college days dumb assed self you .

Another thing i noticed which is odd and this is true. No disrespect to anyone out there that may read this but ever notice how many of these types are in the arts, artists and etc that live and are moving into these places? Like to me, thats very weird. Why is that? I'm just wondering how many of these folks really are artists like they genuinely are into that shyt vs the whole trendy shyt where it's like monkey see monkey do like the independent bands, yoga, the vegan thing, liberal, activist and etc that is trendy among that hipster crowd. Not knocking any artists or people working in the arts because I'm a natural artist myself. That field in itself is not big in generating $$$$$ like that so where is the money coming from for folks to live in these areas especially when it seems like everyone is doing the same shyt? I just think it's weird how it seems like every person those areas seem to attract seems to be like clones.

And honestly, that hipster neighborhood, 6 roommate in the gentrified part of Brooklyn seems to be some high school mentality type of shyt. Like someone who is still stuck in high school worrying about fitting in and etc when it's adulthood. At that point, it's more about surviving and doing what's right for self instead of trying to win approval from people who see shyt as a phase where they will go back to where they moved from and brush shyt off as "fun". living at home or in a communal setting is cultural in many cases.

Don't know about that. NYC always had designated areas for that crowd such as soho and the village.

Another thing too is over saturation. NYC is already an extremely competitive market. With so many people doing the same occupations in a certain areas where everyone is doing the same shyt, how does one stand out in their field? shyt is tough.

but is it possible for US to gentrify and clean up our own neighborhoods without rich Yuppie cacs doing it?


What would it take for us to do something like that for every so called "bad" neighborhood in in every state?

those places and hells kitchen (midtown west) were industrial areas and slums in the 60s. zoning laws also changed to allow residences in those formerly industrial areas (remember cities were de-industrializing during this time)

gentrification by definition is simply when a higher income group displaces a lower income group. because this is the US, that usually means high incomes whites displacing poorer minorities. BUT the first stages of gentrification are when high income whites displace low income whites. that and influxes of gays and artists are the signalers of gentrification (artists seek "culture" and cheap rents and gay couples have dual incomes no kids)

there are examples of black gentrifcation but i don't know enough about it. Ive read reports about black gentrification in DC , Harlem, and Brooklyn. the Atlanta suburbs is a good example of black gentrification of white areas with the influx of middle class African Americans to the Atlanta area. And PG County in Maryland is technically a gentrified area since it got richer as it got blacker (idk about now since apparently some area s of PG are rough)
