I just ate dominos yesterday. No excuses at all, just not doing what I need to at this point.

Just adding this to say that you can't make him want it. Has to come from within.

Nothing wrong with eating Dominos a couple times a month.

step by step.

you can't help dude unless he truly wants to change his life. I'd say first thing dude should do is weigh himself one day and take pics. then go strictly water as far as drinks for 2 weeks. and during those two weeks, only eat out 2 times a week. he can eat as much as he wants but no junk food besides those two cheat meals per week and strictly water (except the cheat meals). then weigh himself again. the result should help motivate him.

after those two weeks, keep the same eating plan but include real fruit, real veggies at least two times every day. and start to include exercise as well (jogging, stationary bike, aerobic routine, boxing, etc, whatever he likes and can do) 3 times a week. again, weigh yourself after two weeks and take pics.

after that depending on if his joint can take it, start lifting (compound exercises) 2 times a week using a beginner program, mixed with the other exercise l (jogging, stationary bike, aerobic routine, boxing, etc, whatever he likes and can do) 2 times a week. or maybe instead, play bball/badminton/soccer/tennis/whatever he likes. again, same diet except maybe drop the cheat meals to one a week.

by the way, i made it up as i went along so adjust it to whatever makes sense to him.

Anyone ever try to help someone who was so obese get it under control and start losing weight? That Big Pun thread got me thinking about that and none in my circle are saying anything. You can get away with this shyt in your teens and 20s, but we all turned 30 now.
Well, getting on a weight loss program is only going to work if he realizes that he needs to do it. If not, then he's going to cheat on his diet. A little Ho-ho here, a Little Debbie Zebra Cake there, it all adds up at the end of the day and you wonder why he's not losing weight. He will claim "innocence" and say the diet plan just didn't work. When in actuality, that lying, b*tch-azz, mo-fo done ate 1200 calories of Hostess goodies all the day long on the DL every day.
When he gets down to around 290 lbs., then he can start walking as a form of exercise. Which, if you think about it, is the equivalent of a 175 lbs. man carrying a a 125 lbs. backpack.

Start transitioning his lifestyle slowly. Like if he eats fast food get him to get only the burger and skip the fries and get water or diet soda. Just getting him to remove extra shyt from his meals he will lose weight since at 410 pounds his BMR is pretty high. Also have him read and learn about nutrition. Have him watch fitness channels have him be surrounded with the fitness lifestyle. Also don't be too hard on your boy if he slips up once in a while. He just need to get back on the grind. I used to be fat so I know this shyt.

I hope things work out for your friend OP. It hurts seeing someone that's close to you trapped in a prison they don't know how to escape. My little brother is severely overweight probably nearing 400. Sometimes I stay up at night thinking about it and getting upset with myself for not putting more effort into helping him.

The difficult part is that if you mention diet or exercise he immediately starts making excuses. Then if you keep pushing him he just gets into a mindset of "I don't want to do it." I know he wants to change cause I've tried telling him about flexible dieting and how he doesn't have to eat salads and water and you can tell he kinda gets interested. I know 400 pounds must feel like climbing Mt. Everest you know but it's not as hard as it seems. It feels like that's the biggest issue with fat loss. So many people have been conditioned to believe that losing weight or being healthy means living some unattainable lifestyle. If people could see that with some changes to diet and little exercise plus time you're on your way to weight loss. I've even thought of cooking his meals for him but I don't wanna be cooking this fool some food if he's not going to eat it or end up drinking a 2 liter or some shyt. Another problem is he loves smoking weed. As a former drug addict/alcoholic I know the only person that can change you is you. If he doesn't want to change than he wont.

Ways I've been thinking of trying:

-Going to the gym with him and having him walk on a treadmill for a few minutes and maybe some light lifting depending on how he feels.
-Trying to cook with him a few healthy(healthyish) meals that he feels comfortable eating regularly.
-Try and find a sport or activity that he likes doing so it doesn't feel like exercise.
-Finding decent alternatives to soda and juice. I know Coke Zero and stuff put I don't want him drinking liters of that. Maybe flavored mineral water?
-Finding a way to teach him about weight loss. I learned what I know through lurking forums and youtube videos. Maybe he can learn through movies, books, or podcast.
-Finding out what motivates him and showing him weight loss will benefit him in whatever it is he's trying to achieve or wanting to get. (maybe a girlfriend or better job.)
-Set a goal.
-Have him write down everything he eats or even better like @winb83 suggested get myfitnesspal and use that. From there you can tell where he's fukking up bad and make adjustments. Maybe soda is his biggest problem. Or at lunch there's a specific thing he's eating that really adds to his calories.

Good luck and keep this thread updated. I'll post back if I have any luck with my bro.

I train overweight people using bodyweight exercises and although he is very heavy its not impossible but it will take time and dedication which is the hardest thing for most people to accept. It takes TIME to change your body whether you are trying to lose weight or gain it. The good thing is that it's easier to lose weight because you're body is already built to naturally work to rid itself of excess fat but if you have nutrient deficiencies from poor eating then your body is no longer capable of removing the toxins.

Here are things he can do immediately to start losing weight.
1. Replace ALL drinks with water and tea. I personally only drink water and tea because I'm not going to waste my money on juices and pops with artificial flavors in it when i can get some lemongrass, honey, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar and make my own sweet drinks all day for less than a $1 per gallon. Its also very healthy, I can give you tips on simple healthy drinks if you like.

2.Bread and meat MUST go. If he has to eat meat then it must be lamb, lamb contains less toxins than all other meats because of its diet and the way they are raised. Beef and chicken are usually slaughtered with diseases in the meat as well as antibiotics, steroids and a belly full of GMO foods.

3 No dairy. Replace cow milk with coconut milk, rice milk or almond milk. No cheese either, if he has to eat cheese then let it be goat cheese.

If he can do those three things he will lose 100lbs in 6 months or less. The next 100 is going to be harder to lose and will require more exercise but it will come off in another 12 months if he stay dedicated. Like i said before the hardest part for people is accepting that its going to take time and planning for it because it can be overwhelming to not when you are going to see progress or reach your goals. Just keep being supportive you're doing the right thing. One thing I found, which is why i created my own nutrition company, is that you can give people all the wisdom in the world but you can't make them execute it. Don't be one of those people who always has a tip for someone. Don't just tell him info, actually take the manifestation of it to him. Make a gallon of drink with lemongrass, honey and acv and take it to him to help him stop drinking that pop and sugar filled juices. Make him some healthy meals when you have time and drop it off to him so he's not tempted to eat fast food. That right there will help him more than anything because if he's feeling like he has to make all these changes on his own he could get overwhelmed and burnt out quick.

I also own a nutrition company ORGANICPOWER.BIZ that produces an organic weight loss product, I started it because I train people like your friend who severely need help and no amount of exercise can get them to their goals if they don't dramatically change what they are consuming. This product is made with 21 organic ingredients scientifically proven to go into the body and remove stored body fat. This product will help him to get started and fill his body with the nutrients his body need to turn his metabolism all the way back on and give him a natural energy boost. I can hook anybody up on thecoli with a good deal and freebies when you order. I guarantee that these products will change bodies and lives without breaking your wallets.

It comes down to intaking less calories than he burns. I think the average american is supposed to burn about 2,000 calories a day. So he should try to keep his calories at about maybe like 800-1,000 per day or even up to 1,500 per day (and Allah knows best). I know when my calories were about 1,450 per day for one month I lost 11 pounds that month. I think i burn about 2,100 calories a day according to my years of tracking calories/weight. A couple of good websites for him are www.healthymuslim.com and www.mercola.com

I was thinking very simple shyt, like park on the very end of the parking lot wherever you go. drop the soda in exchange for lite iced tea or something and then go from there. I bet that's 20+ in about 2 months right there.
Drop any and all sweets and absolutely no sugar drinks, strictly stick with water.

Yeah it is not doing anything.

Dominos again last Saturday with a regular coke :yeshrug:

The problem with people like this is that their tastebuds are fukked. Anything "healthy" is bland unless loaded with sodium or sugar.

I was well overweight when I left uni, not his size but still I think some people here are over complicating it. It's not like he's 50 trying to lose all that weight ,he is still quite young, which means in theory his joints and ligaments can still take some significant strain.

In an idea world in his situation, I would firstly got to a doctor, and have a general workup of my health. See if anything is glaring wrong, so blood tests ,check for diabetes, heart checked /blood pressure, that kind of stuff. Then I would do several things, if the tests came out fine. I would limit my diet to 2500 calories which is all an average man needs , get a good mix, of fruit veg, meats carbs. Three square meals a day, make regular times you eat them and sit down for them . The only things I would stop would be fizzy drinks, and booze. This is so simple ,anyone with half a brain can do it. It's not so much about what you eat when you lose weight,it's how much you are taking in. People can get fat if they eat enough of the healthiest foods on the planet. I have known bodybuilders even who carry on eating what they were while they were training hard and they get fat.

The only reason I recommend fruit/veg etc etc, is because your body will like it more if you eat nutritious foods as opposed to junk food.

Secondly, I would just start walking. When I was overweight, the last place I wanted to go ,was a swimming pool.Plus where I live the swimming pool was hardly ideal for someone really big wanting to lose signifcant weight. As apart from an hour each day it was open to children and families, and in the other hour you had all the serious swimmers going mental in the lanes. Secondly I see quite a few serious swimmers most of them are a bit chubby themselves. Swimming in my view isn't the most effective way to lose weight, as apart from anything else you need to learn the strokes and that can limit how fast you can go. Anyone can walk and run, and in my view running is the best way to lose weight, weight will seriously drop off if you are able to get up to the level of doing a serious running programme.

I would gradually build up the distance/time of the walking week by week. Until I was walking for an hour every day 6 days a week, once I had achieved that, give it another month of walking for an hour six days a week, I would then either join a gym or buy a pair of running shoes and do some light jogging building up to running.

I agree. Also fresh squeezed vegetable juice and also green tea if he would like something different than water but these two are still healthy. Water is the healthiest drink on earth.
