I would start with downloading Myfitnesspal and tracking all food eaten for a week. Once he gets a feel for what he's eating he can develop an attack plan. Probably start with a bit of weight training and walking. Get up 50-60 minutes earlier every day and walk half of it then weightlifting the other half. Dropping all liquid calories usually helps.

Small changes first. At 400+ pounds you have to eat a absurd amount of calories to maintain that weight. Simply shaving off a few hunderd calories a day will start weight loss.

It seems like everything on the coli turns into a debate.

Anyway for those asking, I think his biggest issue is that he ALWAYS eats outside. He goes to work...McDonald's bag and soda in his hands or he will order a pizza at lunch. What I am going to do is bring up a list of small changes and try to encourage cooking his meals, a lot of people just don't know how to cook. I am focusing on food first because that is the first problem that needs to be tackled.

He works at a desk 8 hours a day, drives everywhere.

I am compiling a set of pictures of what I cook and eat during the week and showing it to him. I would assume that the average calories in a fast food meal is over 1,000 calories easy. I just cooked this for a total of 700 calories and feel like I am about to explode. Those shells were stuffed with beef, chicken, beans, onions, and seasoned well. No oil involved in the cooking process, then pressed on a foreman grill to finish it off.

All of this is pure bullshyt. I weighed more when I was doing basketball/running to get in shape. Literally was in the gym doing Syracuse conditioning drills (sprints, backpedals, and defensive slides) and skill work for an hour. Lifting for another hour, and working on footwork for the third. Then working with kids for two hours.

Also did BJJ at the time.

Currently do Muay Thai 4 days and lifting 6.

I can't stand when cats do what y'all are doing. It holds people back and puts even more doubts in their head.

This. He has to want to make that mindset shift. Having people along will work for a time, but that sustained long-term changes is all internal.

Nah. The most important thing is a mindset shift. Don't need a trainer, they need to change their diets around and a trainer can't sit with you 24 hours and stop you from ordering a pizza with wings, cheesy bread, and a Fanta Strawberry.
Yeah the shift in mindset is huge, but it's a little irresponsible of you to just call BS on something. Hell, I don't even know what medical conditions he might have. It would be irresponsible of me to think that he can just come with me on a 2-3 mile walk or play basketball at this time.

If he doesn't have joint/pain/HBP problems get him started on walking, and small weights.
He also needs to start changing his diet.
Joining a community gym probably won't be in the cards, but lean meats (have to start slow), fruits and vegetables will need to be the vast majority of his diet.
He needs to track how much he walks, and lifts, and marginally increase them over the course of the months ahead.
Its entirely possible for him to turn his life around if he is dedicated to losing weight.

I got a vitamix and a thermos and I eat soup for lunch every day. I usually make either tomato soup or broccoli cheddar. It's pretty low cal and since I'm at work I don't care as much. Some days it's crackers with the soup and a sandwich. I can usually keep my lunch calories under 600. It is an immense help in keeping my daily calories low. Only takes 5 mins to make the soup and it's still warm mid day.

If he wants to lose weight he's gonna have to prepare home cooked meals mostly.

I watched a documentary on Netflix called fat sick and nearly dead. And a guy in it use to be a swimmer in high school, 6'3 and slim. Got depressed and blew up to 400+ lbs. He lost over 200 lbs by drinking green smoothies as meal replacements (and eventually working out toward the end)

I think he had High blood pressure and bad joints etc. Was able to stop taking his medications too

I just watched both of those about a month ago. That dedication was something. I don't know if I could do that for 2 months

I'm trying to do this for my brother now. doing his lunches and cooking for him. I was just talking to him about walking almost every day and having to be committed. I will suggest swimming to him too.

Yeah it's been a few weeks and dude is still ordering Domino's and other shyt on the nightly.

I tried :yeshrug:
Yeah you can't make another person want this. It takes too much from inside to do this to be motivated by someone else.
