Neither of them were ever really tryin to or meant to solve anything. Fox is out there searching for his sister using tax payer money no less, and Dana was partnered with him to calm his loony ass down. They're superiors were using the both of them to deflect.

True, the FBI basically used them to figure out any missing gaps in old incidents or weird unsolved crimes, then subsequently hushed those incidents up

In the end they had to just take getting bent over every week, because they loved the job, especially Mulder. This is the only way he'd have access to this information.

Supposedly she escaped wherever the Cigarette Man had held her n experimented on her....she ended up in a hospital, THEN of course the Cigarette Man n his goons come to get her and then these spiritual/alien energy beings called “Walk Ins” came n got her, turned her into one of them and she became a “starlight child”. These things supposedly give children who are abducted a peaceful way to die and go to the afterlife, also leaving no physical corpse behind.
