Movies in 2023 are as bad, or worse, than they were in the 1980s

2 Indiana Jones movies
2 star wars movies
eddie dropping comedy classics all decade
terminator
ghostbusters
lost boys
predator
die hard
back to the future
the last dragon
big trouble in little china

there is no comparison between the 80's and hell the last 23 years.

OP has probably seen three movies in the theater this year.

on the real though your RT link immediately gave me 5 movies to add to my queue in just the first 20. seems you don't like indie or foreign films.
This is the most wrong comment directed at me on this site all year.

Well done.

You forgot a lot (Aliens, Robocop, The Thing, etc)
80's were the GOAT for movies.

This is why I hope the strike last for longer than anticipated.

Yes, it’ll be unfortunate for those who would be working (I’m in that group too so I’m willing to accept a loss) but I feel like this constant flow movies and film need to stop in order to give consumers a space in time where they might see how bad film has become instead of constantly accepting what’s put out.

Or, when consumers only abandon/cancel a film or project when it doesn’t mesh with their cultural aesthetic.

Those can’t be the guidelines to what makes a movie great. And regurgitating previously amazing ideas over and over again just means you have nothing to say as a writer/director/producer/etc.

You’re just an instrument to make capital at that point.

To put some respect on @FlyRy name, there have been some good indie movies in the past decade or so.

But they’re mostly foreign. So yeah, I guess if I want to watch a lot of Scandinavian or German or French movies, there’s stuff there. The middle eastern movies…eh. There have been good ones, but typical themes.

I actually think this year has been the best year for diverse and different movies:jbhmm:

Yup…. Back then there was really no diversity in films.

Sound like someone (the writer of article not the poster) wants to Make A hollywood Great Again :skip:

Diversity in films today is more about the cast than it is about diversity in types of movies.

You put a couple of Asian roommates in a movie about how they’re struggling to pay rent and keep a relationship alive and everyone is like :gladbron:

And I’m just sitting here :beli:

This year has actually been pretty good as far as quality output. It's one of the better years in the past decade or so. They're putting the fun back in them, and doing more experimenting with themes, genres.

Hell, I never thought I'd see the day when a move about Oppenheimer was being viewed as a must-see...and on a day with Barbie. That ish would've typically been a nerd film, and faded into hardcore cinephiles.
