finally got around to checking this out. pretty interesting stuff coming from good old dave lol.
he said AEW probably turned this mjf thing into an angle because they need something to jack up the ratings and perhaps this can do it. funny because according to meltzer and the marks they're always talking about how Dynamite is one of the highest rated shows on cable and dominate the demos, so why do they need a ratings bump?
dave says the warner execs most likely didnt like the mjf promo. says everything they did with wardlow up until now got erased and was all for nothing.
dynamite was taped in a 14k arena but came off like a 5k arena on tv. production should have been better. then he goes, they announced punk vs tanahashi.. that was.. interesting
they need to introduce the japanese wrestlers to american audience before forbidden door and theyre not gonna be able to do that in 2 weeks. promo videos could have helped but there were none. johnny elite is now a squash guy, basically a jobber which is surprising.
says looks like theyre gonna do punk vs mjf at all out. punk is aew's biggest star and hes in his mid 40s and cant be depended for the future. says mjf promo was supposed to cement him further as a heel but it ended up making TK and the company the heels instead. its gonna be hard to do austin/mcmahon without a mcmahon. if mjf leaves in 2024 it will do a lot of harm to the company. says mjf promo could end up making TK look like an incompetent guy with a lot of money. says the whole angle is pillman-esque in wcw but in the end wcw didnt gain anything from it.
but going from meltzer's tweets and always bigging up aew, you would never think he thinks this way lmao.
