Anyone not take terminal leave before they contract end?

Any reason to not do it?

why wouldn’t you take terminal leave. Only people I’ve seen not take it were kicked out. If you are thinking about selling leave days back it’s honestly not worth it. I start my terminal leave on the 1st and I’m on leave until June 1st. And I’ll be selling about 18 days back. Because I get a Permissive TDY that’s also 20 days of leave.

just take your leave if you can. Unless you were like me and haven’t taken leave in a long time and haven’t had your leave deducted in an even longer time.

Only so many days (60?) per career, and only at the end of each contract. shyt gets big taxed too.:patrice:
I think I sold back nearly a month when I got out... but I can barely remember the details at this point. More than anything, I didn't want to be on the hook for anything that would tie into any UCMJ/Government liability issues if I were to get a speeding ticket, take a contracting job, etc.

I didn't want to give the military a single reason to contact or involve me with anything when I was getting out. And terminal leave is still leave. I've seen more than a few people get tripped up on their way out because they thought they were home free.

If you already have a job/side hustle lined up that's not time sensitive, you could sell the leave and chill at work doing nothing, basically getting time and half (quarter after taxes?) to sit in your ass at the office doing nothing.

You can still do that because you will get paid until your ets date. So either way you are still being paid.

Well, another career I'm seriously considering is 17C. But everyone and their momma is trying to be a cyber/IT specialist. Typically when I see so many people do something I tend to go the opposite direction. But in all honesty I may fare better with that job as I already have a background in programming. The job seems very popular so I wouldn't be surprised if it were fully booked. If the army recruiter says it isn't available should I wait for it?

So I could be a cyber guy, apply for a 'green door assignment' and have the potential to be attached to a tier 2 unit?

I was just operating under the assumption that doing a job (intel/cyber) in a special operations unit was more 'valuable' (i.e.: faster promotion, attractive on a resume for post-military jobs, learn more). Since you get to see and do things that most people never get to experience. Don't want a monotone job where I'm doing the same thing everyday. Want there to be some dynamicism and spontaneity on the job and to learn stuff beyond the initial training. If all of this can be achieved without joining a special operations unit then I'll be fine with that.

Gonna reconsider the Air Force after reading your post. I have no preference between Air Force or Army. Honestly I probably picked the worst time to join the military as we're in the middle of a pandemic and folks are getting laid off left and right; economic downturn. I'd imagine the military upped their standards. But I figured as long as I'm in shape and do well on the ASVAB they'll have no choice but to seriously consider me.

<-- My plan so far -->
Army:
17C/35F (leaning towards cyber) -> Years later -> If I like the army shoot for intel/cyber warrant officer

OR

Air Force:
3D0X2 -> Years later -> Retrain for 1B4X1 (Cyber Warfare Operations) (appears to be a sough after AFSC)

1) (AF/Army) Is this realistic?
2) (AF/Army) Which branch has a more involved cyber unit? (more/better training, more work)
3) (AF) Any of the '3D' jobs are a good prerequisite for 'cyber warfare'?
4) (Army) Is warrant officer something worth pursuing?

My apologies if I'm asking too much.
Brah how long are u gone keep pretending like u going in the military?

Ya whole post history is asking shyt and talking like u bout to go in:mjlol:

Yes, but now you've sold the leave for cash and are still getting your salary. :dwillhuh:

But that cash comes after your ets and is taxed. I’d rather just have my full pay.

so I forgot what percentage it’s taxed at but you typically come out ahead without selling the days. Unless you just need the money.

like in my situation I’ll be selling some days back but that’s really just circumstances I would of gladly took the extra days.

Now I remember, I went from Active Duty to AGR - and because my report date was within 30 days, I actually had to sell my excess leave days while on terminal leave. I couldn't change my status otherwise.

But even then, I wouldn't have been able to take on security gigs and stuff while on a mil payroll. Terminal leave is dope if you've got a place you can already chill, your lifestyle isn't going to change dramatically, etc. I was moving across the country at the time.
