How is ATL being named a shytty sports town? Cause they got tired of supporting underachievers in the Braves? Never supported mediocrity in the Hawks. Can tell those are the only sports don't click down there but CFB rules that town. Even the Falcons are starting to have that rabid fanbase that's on par with these other big cities. They just aren't as national (re: dikkriding band wagoners) as the other big cities

Living in NoVA it's hard to picture that as all I see is Caps stuff floating around whenever they're on a streak or looking good. I would only hope that the Hoyas come back, I'd love to see them return.

And I hate the fact that UMD is considered part of the area. Reminds me of rooting for the O's because it was the closest baseball team.

is this serious?

UMD is located like 10 miles from downtown DC. And the DC border is about 7 miles away.

nah, I hate the fact that UVa and Va Tech are considered apart of the DC area. Those two schools are not closer than Columbia, Maryland to DC, yet they are considered apart of the area by the media.

because when the BRaves were beasting, you guys didnt support them like you should.

D.C. is a great sports town... Only problem is they don't root for the teams in the town...From what I've observed it's an area full of Cowboys, Lakers and Miami Hurricane fans...

Like Miami and Atlanta they just seem to have a hype beast mentality...

Everyone has an iphone, wears Jordans and everyones favorite rapper is Jay-Z...N1ggas with zero imagination...They just look at the poll numbers and roll with the winners...

the city that created a different form of music is some how lacking imagination:beli:

this new batch of youngins, idk, but DC is the most distinct town on the east coast

Strong statement there..

But you would know better than me.. I've only been here for 5 years and can only speak on what I see in my circles..

Just never liked rooting for MD :manny: I used to go to Cole Field House to watch UNC play. :lolbron: However, regarding Big East basketball, I have to root for the Hoyas.

But I couldn't agree with you more regarding UVA and VT, makes me want to vomit that they're involved in all of that. Nothing greater than watching VT lose at FedEx last week because there are so many VT fans in this area.

Alumnus basically. Like UGA is much further from Atlanta than GT and GT gets 2nd tier coverage while UGA is the most popular team in the state.

Everywhere is football town now other than Boston, LA and NYC.

Actually it's an NFL town...Dallas is a football town...There is a difference...

redskins have the second highest attendance in the league. the waiting list for season tix despite all kinds of raises in prices and delivery fukkups on snyder's part dont even matter. these fans are die hard...now i admit the cowboy thing in the city is wierd, but these fans are dedicated, almost to a fault and spend their dollars faithfully. wiz fans are a joke, but caps fans are even pretty consistent...nationals just got here, but alot of people still remain loyal to the orioles...and from what i understand dc united has had pretty good attendance in comparison to the league

Yeah I know.. But what I mean is being a football town is bigger than just the NFL...College and HS football is lackluster in the area compared to other regions...In places like Dallas, Houston, Detroit and Cleveland college teams have bigger crowds than the NFL games.. D.C. is one of the rare places where their NFL team outdraws the surrounding college team by a grip...

And I agree about the Wizards..I live 10 minutes from the arena and I have still yet to meet a Wizards fan...If they exist they are too ashamed to come out of hiding..The Capitals seem to have a passionate base but I don't know if that's due to their recent success or if it's always been like that..

The Caps had a strong base in Montgomery County back when they played in the Cap Centre in Largo. Their training center is located there.

A lot of people are on the bandwagon cuz they have a (former) superstar in Ovechkin and have successful teams. That's why they have a sell out streak. I just wonder how long will it last when they start to struggle again.

It really is...

I've had the displeasure of living in three of the worst sports towns in America (Miami, Atlanta and D.C.)

They all have the same things in common...Lots of transplants, tons of gorgeous women and a bangin azz night life (also a high rate of HIV infection but thats another story)....

They are never gonna have that type of passion and support as a Green Bay and OKC, where the team IS the city and it's whole indentity..

Redskins attendance numbers are misleading because for example when you look in the crowd at a Steelers game it's hard to figure out who the home team is.. I've seen the same thing with the Cowboys and Giants on a smaller scale...They stay letting their stadium gettin taken over by the transplants...

You don't see that in Green Bay or Pittsburgh...

Stuff like this is embarassing
