D.C. is a great sports town... Only problem is they don't root for the teams in the town...From what I've observed it's an area full of Cowboys, Lakers and Miami Hurricane fans...

Like Miami and Atlanta they just seem to have a hype beast mentality...

Everyone has an iphone, wears Jordans and everyones favorite rapper is Jay-Z...N1ggas with zero imagination...They just look at the poll numbers and roll with the winners...

Chill, we don't got that many jigga warriors here.:usure:

I'm being delusional?

First of all, you haven't given one reason why you believe any of the cities you named are better sports cities than D.C. Not one. Pittsburgh is better? Why? Philly better? Why?

I went to attendance figures. You want to say the fans don't give a fukk? Then why do they continue to support the teams in person? That's my argument. What's yours?

And fukk Charlotte. I'm fully aware people are serious about college basketball in the state of North Carolina but when the fukk did the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, N.C. State and Duke move their campuses to Charlotte? Raleigh/Durham is three fukking hours away from Charlotte, that shyt don't count.

Again, FOH.

attendance figures?

Attendance don't make you a sports town....nor a professional sports the only consideration for what's considered a sports town either

DC is a place where you're more likely to find fans of non local teams...than you are of the skins, wizards and nats.

It really is...

I've had the displeasure of living in three of the worst sports towns in America (Miami, Atlanta and D.C.)

They all have the same things in common...Lots of transplants, tons of gorgeous women and a bangin azz night life (also a high rate of HIV infection but thats another story)....

They are never gonna have that type of passion and support as a Green Bay and OKC, where the team IS the city and it's whole indentity..

Redskins attendance numbers are misleading because for example when you look in the crowd at a Steelers game it's hard to figure out who the home team is.. I've seen the same thing with the Cowboys and Giants on a smaller scale...They stay letting their stadium gettin taken over by the transplants...

You don't see that in Green Bay or Pittsburgh...

Stuff like this is embarassing

Steeler Nation invades FedEx Field - YouTube

so one game in the nadir of redskins history and the coinciding peak of a steelers' run of dominance means fedex gets invaded regularly?

you really don't know shyt breh...you're the transplant that only knows transplants i was referring to earlier, aren't you? you from jersey, florida, or oregon?

the steelers and cowboys are special cases historically, because of the marshall racism thing back in the day and the fact that no one wanted to live in pittsburgh in the 80s so they came here for jobs. those are two teams that might have a strong presence in the area, and that one game, as i said before, was an exception.

fedex field is a horribly inconvenient stadium with partially blocked views all over with a mediocre team playing in it, yet its nearly always filled to capacity with people wearing burgundy and gold. horrible fans :ohhh:

shyt, mastermind and i are on this site every nfl season lamenting how well supported the skins are despite the high prices and bad teams.

when the wizards were a .500 team they sold out every game. what city in america packs the gym for a team that wins 15 games? when boston was winning title after title in the 60s, they barely supported the celtics, yet everyone considers them the greatest sports city of all time? it took white superstars to get consistent sellouts in the garden

there's a layer of washington that transplants aren't even aware of that operates underneath all the hysteria of the city that newcomers thrive on

I agree that "NOW" this town has a bunch of bandwagon, hoe hoppin fans due to DC being very transient now (Gov't, Jobs, etc..)

At its core D.C. is a basketball town (H.S. ball is crazy huge) and a Skins town. A lot of your fake cowboy fans reside in Moco, P.G., So. MD and a small fragment in NO VA (they all just want attention):troll:

As mentioned earlier D.C. created two genres of music (Punk, GO-GO) so we don't ride other people’s dikks like other cities do. :sadbron:

Another thing that pisses me off is when folks say MD is a white school but yet give G-Town a pass. MD has like 5,000 students of African descent unlike G-Town or any other local school not named Howard (the real HU).

So out of towner’s like Wilbon can get the fukk out our city with hating ass :birdman:

I don't even know where to begin here.

D.C. has a hype-beast mentality?

Everyone's favorite rapper is Jay-Z and we all wear Jordans?

Okay.

I see..

Like I said I am a newcomer I've only been here 5 years so I'm not hip to the underground scene where apparently local sports hysteria runs rampant in speak easies and hidden basements...

:heh:

:manny:

I don't recall seeing Wizards games sold out during 15 win seasons, but if you say so, then okay...No doubt you probably know something that I don't..

I see the same apathy, front running and bandwagoning I saw in Atlanta and Miami..But if you think you're special I'm not gonna try to convince you that you're wrong...I can only speak on what I see...

Yeah I hear ya.. For me all I know is "NOW" so of course my perspective is gonna be tainted by the present... I'm sure it wasn't always like that...People are always telling me how different things are from the 80's and 90's...

Yeah I know.. But what I mean is being a football town is bigger than just the NFL...College and HS football is lackluster in the area compared to other regions...In places like Dallas, Houston, Detroit and Cleveland college teams have bigger crowds than the NFL games.. D.C. is one of the rare places where their NFL team outdraws the surrounding college team by a grip...

And I agree about the Wizards..I live 10 minutes from the arena and I have still yet to meet a Wizards fan...If they exist they are too ashamed to come out of hiding..The Capitals seem to have a passionate base but I don't know if that's due to their recent success or if it's always been like that..

No it's not.

You mentioned Dallas ... the Cowboys dwarf attendance at SMU games.

Cleveland? If there's a FBS team there, let us know. Same with Detroit.

The Steelers play in the same stadium as Pitt ... they outdraw them by a grip.

The Eagles play in the same stadium as Temple ... they outdraw them by a grip.

Compare attendance at Miami Dolphins and Miami Hurricane games, Atlanta Falcons and Georgia Tech game, Houston Texans and Houston/Rice games, Arizona Cardinals and Arizona State games, Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Bulls games, Tennessee Titans and Vanderbilt games, Cincinnati Bengals and Cincinnati Bearcats games, Denver Broncos and Colorado St. games, Giants/Jets and Rutgers games, San Diego Chargers and SDSU games ...

What's rare about it again?

And the Wiz are consistently getting 17,000+ at home games and you can't find a fan? I'm from here and know a ton.

nikka, so what does make you a sports town?!?! You still haven't answered that basic question ...

So the reason why the Caps are over-capacity at every home game is because everybody is there to see the other team?

The reason why the Redskins are getting 85,000+ at every home game and are second in the league in attendance is because all of the Giants and Cowboys fans here would rather miss their team's game to go to Fed Ex to watch the Redskins play the Browns?

The reason why one of the worst teams in the NBA - the Wizards - for a long ass time is getting 17,000 at every home game is because fans from other teams are buying season tickets to watch the other team?

GTFOH.
