I'm not saying he's not a free agent though. I made the comparison to Floyd in the sense that both he and Cotto don't have a binding contract per se with both GB and TR rather than a fight to fight type deal. But as it stands for right now it looks like Top Rank is gonna back Cotto for his next fight. After that? Chances are he's gonna weigh his options because from an HBO standpoint that's the biggest fight he can make.
Maybe

But I say he way his options now rather than later; he's already poking his stick at GB trying to get them to pony up the cash...

I'd rather see him with canelo. Cotto has problems with them taller/longer fighters. And against Sergio he'll end up boxing:snoop:

Interesting to see if Freddie will still try to have Cotto slugging against Sergio.

But you right tho Arum is a cancer to these epic fights, hell probably end up with Sergio:smh:

True but he needs Canelo first. We need him while he's emotionally damaged and force him into Hatton status:mjpls:

Sergio hasnt been undressed and embarrassed quite yet like Canelo was, so Sergio is a bigger money fight for Cotto, plus Sergio has a expiration date nearing, and why would Cotto run to help GB and Canelo after he was promised a Canelo match and sat on the shelf and kept quiet while GB catapulted Canelo into a Floyd match 6 months to a year early. Cotto doesnt need Canelo one bit, but now that Canelo 0 is gone and he hasn't truly gained a fan based like a fighter like Cotto has. There is little fights that Canelo could have that could garner any interest; this is the perils of being a complete fraud ass hype job.

Let Canelo fight the big boys like GB tried to make Cotto sit back and do refusing decent scraps and such, trying to force him to take the fights nobody wanted all the while the are lining Canelo up with lww and WW's including Mayweather. If Cotto fights Canelo he'll be dictating everything, everything.....

LIke @Black_Jesus stated by choosing this career path Cotto gives himself nothing but options, after he beat the shyt out of Martinez which he will do, he's right back on the Floyd radar, and then maybe a Canelo match if he hasnt taken multiple L's by then. Not to mention Cotto will receive no flack if he loses to Sergio.

Cotto is simply a guy that has all angles covered always.....

what I meant is that it looks like Cotto is going with Top Rank(based on his post fight comment) and making a fight with Golden Boy promotion would be hard because of the camps differences

cotto stepping in hard with the jab was why pacquiao destroyed him. cotto gets his whole attack off that hard jab and pacquiao was feasting on it meaning there was no way cotto was going to win that fight. it took him about six or seven rounds to realize he didnt want to be in the same ring as manny pacquiao. if cotto fought pacquiao a hundred times he loses a hundred times and if cotto cant handle pacquiao at 147 handling sergio martinez up at 160 is something i just cannot see

It's easy to say that in hindsight, but there are intangibles that make a Pacquiao vs Cotto and Martinez vs Cotto two completely different fights. I'd say THAT Pacquiao Cotto fought was a Pacquiao at his peak. That's the best Manny I've seen at 147. Martinez though at least in my eyes isn't at his peak (or prime) and has had nagging injuries for 2 years now. He's not as fast as Manny nor throws the combos Manny throws. Martinez also isn't much of a pressure fighter more than a counter puncher but Cotto also is very underrated in that dept. You can't ignore Martinez's size advantage (especially Fight Night) but if there were a good time for Cotto to challenge Martinez I think its now. Cotto's in a win/win. He loses, he lost to the Lineal Middleweight Champ. He wins?

Not to compare the fighters, but Duran was supposed to get his ass beat by Hagler going to Middleweight. Didn't exactly happen.

from the home of coca-cola, i'm not referring to s
GB has all the fighters. Yet It's always GB reaching out, the latest being Mares/Donaire.

Martinez is that legacy fight, but he's too big at 160. The Cotto pre delving would be out there boxing.

But i just read an article that Freddie wants Martinez at the full 160 instead of the 158 CW Martinez offered. I wonder what strategy he got for em:ohhh:
that was all a PR publicity stunt

Sergio Martinez - 5'10, 73" reach, Fight night weight: 167-168

Miguel Cotto - 5'7 1/2, 67" reach, Fight night weight - 165lbs

To gauge the size difference

Though Margarito is listed at 5'11 but with same reach as Martinez

Cotto will get crushed by Sergio, we have to pretend that cotto fight this weekend never happened, that was a tomatoe can if I ever seen one... Cotto already has a shakey chin and in Sergio he will face the hardest puncher he's ever been in with.

The only thing going against Sergio is his age. He likes to keep his hands down and use his quickness, but that's a young man's style of fighting. If father time doesn't creep up on him too quickly, he'll beat Cotto. If this fight happened a few years ago, shyt I might pick Sergio by stoppage.
