Man, come on. You got 16 posts in that thread doing the exact thing you're whining about in here. Have some shame. :russ:
Not once in there did i pretend to be “concerned” for workers or calling sony a bad company or talking about the “optics”. Or “corporations.

In fact i was doing the same in there as i’m doing here.
Microsoft drops prices and the Sony stans dance through the streets in anticipation of Xbox's demise. :blessed:

Sony closes studios, important people leave, shuts down stores, fires people, and now it's all.

":whoa:Nothing to see here"

"It's just a restructure"

"People lost their jobs:to:

:camby: fukk outa here with this shyt. If it was about Microsoft the thread would already be 15 pages deep full of circle jerk.
My posts in there were literally prophetic as we enter page 14 here :wow:

From The Pragmatic Engineer newsletter:

Microsoft announced eliminating 10,000 positions on Wednesday - and I analyzed why the company decided to make this move despite earning record profits in 2022, in this week’s The Scoop. The layoffs at Microsoft suggest that in 2023, the tech industry may stall growth-wise. By cutting 5% of staff, Microsoft reduces its headcount from 221,000 to around 211,000. We can expect that by the middle of this year, the company’s headcount will increase, but only modestly, and still be below the 221,000 figure it was at last July.

The belief is that MS is getting ahead of coming downturns in bussiness/growth and cutting it's 5% now. We saw more major layoff announcements today and Goldman Sachs became the first non-tech company to join the layoff party, cutting 6% of its staff. MS is well diversified so even though these layoffs suck, they don't really have an impact on their business and some of these jobs will return as early as this year.

MS execs enjoying a Sting concert in Switzerland the day before the layoffs is quite the look

All people are saying and justifiably so. The plea copping and whataboutism isn’t necessary. It’s a horrible look.

That Sting private party the night before the announcement is so out of touch and ridiculous that it’s pathetic
This isn't even close to the prevailing sentiment at MS.

Probably a mixture of folks who are wondering if they'll be forced to retire a little earlier and others looking at available roles to pivot to either internally or externally. Some will do that now and others will wait until the news drops and the 60 day clock hits.

RIF happen frequently enough that anyone who's been there for any decent amount of time knows the deal. They also likely know folks who have been RIFed and have made out just fine or better.

Most Folks from MS aren't particularly concerned about their prospects in the job market.

As you said, this comes with the game of working for a large corporation.

Again it’s the the optics that look horrible considering the money spent on those two huge acquisitions

For who?
Employees aren't stressed over it.
Perspective employees will still apply.
Shareholders obviously don't care.

Folks really in here acting like this a good thing?

:snoop:
No one is. 10k people are going to lose their jobs. Folks are using it as fodder for stand wars. Other folks are just pointing out this is a trend across multiple business across multiple sectors.

We all knew this was going to happen when the central banks announced they're looking to force a recession.
