Yes, compared to the 60's we are better off but can you honestly say that with everything we have available to us we should be better off?

I think we are doing both. Every year we improve. None of us can say if that improvement is fast enough. We can always do better but I see black excellence everyday. It's a matter of perception. If you watch tv and worldstar all day then you will have a bad view of black people, because those are the images that are presented to the world. If you actually spend some time with poor black people you will see that they are hard workers that care about their future just as much as the next man. Are there some bad apples? Sure. But don't let those peoe define your view of black folks as a whole.

I take no offense when a black leader stands up and challenges us to do better. People in this thread have taken that concept too far by calling people "lazy" and "complainers"

I disagree with Mrs. Obama's statements because I disagree with the notion that little kids having immature dreams is a problem that needs to be addressed. We all dreamt of some unrealistic off the wall stuff. The dreams aren't the problem it's the opportunities that are presented to the kids that are the problem.

While I agree with the bolded, what the young generation can do is prepare themselves for when the opportunity does arise, they are prepared and qualified for it.

On another note, we can also create our own opportunities. This is something that the Asian community and some other minorities have mastered. They start their own businesses, support their own businesses, and hire their own. It's something that the black community should be able to mimic.
