because those groups are still significant voting blocks that democrats have traditionally depended upon. but they're voting blocks within a larger and more inclusive tent of americans that includes whites, asians, gays, etc. we need blacks and latinos to vote dem to win, but that doesn't mean we need to focus explicitly on issues pertaining to them. that's divisive. we're in this together.

Neither party gives a shyt about black people, Obama just continuing the legacy so he doesn't look biased.

I can't believe I fell for Obama's image :to:

Cacs with money.

Keep playing dumb.

Obama the same as all the other presidents, he doesn't give a fuq about black people  rts

black people don't give a fukk about black people. until that changes, nobody cares. and i don't blame them. black people need to change their thinking and get up off their asses and do some work. or they're going to get left behind, and i won't have any sympathy for them, even as a black man.

Why do you expect Obama to just GIVE you what you ain't helping to do for yourself?

Thats the problem here.

Black people aren't bringing money to the table.

I don't think you know how this shyt works out here.

Isn't it Obama's duty to help the people of america though? I expected to see Obama giving inspirational speeches to young black people but nah :childplease:

i recognize that. but there are also a lot of black people, myself included, who realize that they're not going to do shyt for us. so we have to do it ourselves. i'm not waiting for obama to write me a check, man. if all you do is whine and nobody is listening, doesn't that mean another course of action is required?

yeah, that is why that thread in HL about obama betraying minorities because of some promise zone is stupid, people seem to have a hard time understanding in cases like that how local politics is just as important as national politics, so they try to blame obama for what some local politicians did

People have no idea what is going on. Obama on TV saying he has come up with some 'Fed' money for minorities or black people. The local Government sitting at home like :rudy: 'them negros' ain't bout to see none of that.

I'ma try to explain how it goes down in my thread.

He doesnt owe blacks cause he is black. He owes blacks cause we gave him 99% of their vote and helped him get elected. Thats what politics in this country is about.

I'll take it a step further. Without the black vote in Illinois, he doesn't become a state senator. This was his second time running for the position. The first time, he lost badly and was hurting financially as a result. That loss almost destroyed his marriage with Michelle too.

That win, the cosign of many black politicians, and thus the strong support of black voters helped him later in the US senate race and the presidential election.

And what did black voters get in return? Not much, compared to other groups (Latinos, Asians, LGBT, etc)

EDIT: I have to add however, most black voters, myself included, just didn't know the game like that. In general, we mostly thought so long as we show up to the ballot box, everything else will take care of itself.

When in reality, we didn't have the key ingredients needed to progress in America: a VERY clear agenda to present to Obama and other national and local politicians and a strong lobbying power to back that agenda. Other groups are ahead of us on that regard.

We know--or at least should know--better now. Better put it to the test soon.

At the end of the day Obama is just a puppet and corporations/rich folks are the masters. Until we pool our money together to buy politicians ain't shyt gonna change, black president or not. All this became very apparent once Barry was in his 2nd term despite his entire election campaign running on that bullshyt "hope" and "change" platform. I admit I drunk the koolaid his 1st election and is partly why I have no problem with Cornell West railing on him.

I call bullshyt on cats saying Obama don't owe black people anything as well. yea the fukk he does, we voted for him in record numbers. I thought that's how politics is supposed work (at least that's what the illusion of the game is), I get u in and you address the needs of the people who got u there. He wasted no time doing it for the gays once he was reelected. Imagine Hillary getting in and mostly ignoring her large feminist constituency. And who the fukk equates handouts with acknowledging and addressing black issues like the government doesn't play a major role in our current state of affairs. How dare we expect the head of state who promised change to, you know actually change shyt. :patrice:

I'm ambivalent towards Obama, don't love em don't hate em. I think the symbol of a black man in the highest office of the free world is very important .yet I'm not too blinded by the symbolism to recognize he also is the figure head for a system that works towards the detriment of people that looks just like him.

No sir. The My Brother's Initiative and the various flavors of the idea, was not a program recently given to the President or to just this administration and/or to just this year's black and hispanic congressional caucus, though this President may have waited for his second term to push it

You have to recall that known and unknown black men/woman have writing books, made presentations to black community leaders and members, and congressional members for years about possible solutions. The ideas have always been there from the minds of Randall Robinson to Dr. Anderson. And like the National Black Political Convention of '72 have shown, black folks made efforts to become political powers, by doing what other communities are given credit for

But just like how
-personal agenda
-fear of what other will think/do
had undermined every unsuccessful black slave revolt and undermined the efforts of the National Black Political Convention of '72 , those same reasons are at the core of why a "black agenda" can not be addressed. That's why I mention the importance of education[knowledge of self, fears, motivations, common obstacles] will help to establish a successful campaign like Powernomics and any other efforts that clearly seeks black socio-economical improvement
