It's one thing to say you want the best roles available. But to say you only want the roles written for white characters? That's some weird shyt.

Not all "black roles" are stereotypical (although there aren't many non-steriotypical black roles out there, in fairness). After all, his most famous roles were specifically written for a black actor to play (Oscar Grant and Creed's son).

He is super cute IMO, and his comments are questionable at best but the reason this black woman won't be seeing the movie is because it looks WACK AS HELL! People in Hollywood (and outside of it for that matter) say questionable things allllllll the time. If I refused to see movies that had actors/actresses who had said ridiculous and racist things in the past then I would never, ever watch a movie.

Whether you like it or not, every black person in the public eye has a certain amount of scrutiny attached to them from both black and white communities. My problem with this actor is that he's following the trend of many black celebrities before him in that he's pandering to those who have created an environment where it's very difficult for him to succeed rather than those who actually helped him to succeed. Nobody forced him to make those comments about the Black Lives Matter movement but he did so in order to gain 'points' with white people.

Also, isn't the whole 'you must support all black actors' argument that you seem to be implying, a political one?

The black community hold every black person accountable for the state we're in you must be an activist at all times. This. Most black roles, unless written specifically for them, are usually an afterthought. At best, comic relief, and at worst, a stereotype to fluff the atmosphere up. The quote was worded horribly, but it doesn't necessarily mean
